To Know God and Make Him Known

Crazy Busy

My church, Highlands Ranch Assembly, is on a mission right now: we are reading the book Crazy Busy by Kevin DeYoung and meeting twice per month to discuss it in small groups. Crazy Busy is actually quoted in Teaching From Rest, a homeschool resource book that I know many of us love. I just finished finished chapter six in Crazy Busy, "A Cruel Kindergarchy". In this chapter DeYoung highlights the fact that the Bible actually gives very little instruction on parenting. Granted, the Bible is our guide book for how we are to treat one another and see each other as the image of Christ. However, the specific parent-child relationship is not directly addressed much in God's word. There are four key truths in Scripture regarding how parents are to treat their children:

#1 We are to teach them about God (Deuteronomy 6:7)

#2 We are to discipline them (Proverbs 23:13)

#3 We are to be thankful for them (Psalm 127:3-5)

#4 We are not to exasperate them (Ephesians 6:4)

Thankfully (?) the Bible does not address what type of cereal is best for them, how much screen time is too much, and whether or not caffeine really does stunt their growth. LOL! In all seriousness, if you're like me you may tend to get wrapped up in worldly expectations and pursuits when it comes to child-rearing. These four reminders served to free me from some of the pressure I feel as a homeschool by mom by reminding me that God keeps it simple: love Him, love others. I will not meet each of these four precepts every day, but by His grace He is helping me and shaping me as I desire to raise them up to follow after Him.

Excellence in Education

Just a reminder that members from Epiphany will be joining us Wednesday morning from 9am - 10am. Our goal here is to pray for them. I hope they also get a better feel for what we do and why we do it. Please feel free to chat with them and share your experience as a homeschool mom. You may also wish to thank them for their support of our mission!
