As part of a continued effort to build a strong academic partnership, below, you will see an attached Read at Home Plan that outlines several strategies and ideas to help your child(ren) in their learning journey. Also, linked here, you will find direct information broken down by the big five areas of reading to help with specific strategies and ideas for your child(ren). We are confident that the quality instruction provided at school, coupled with your efforts at home, will set your child on the path to reaching their individual potential.
If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
You should have received a letter this week regarding second semester options for learning. Please take some time to review the guidelines here and complete the survey in PowerSchool specifiying your plan for second semester. Please call the school if you have any questions.
*Drop off/pick up continues to improve. Please remember these things to help keep everyone safe and to expedite the process.
1. Stay all the way over to the right when waiting in line. This helps our busses when arriving in the morning.
2. Please continue to pull all the way forward, even when waiting outside of the drop off
zone. We want to keep that line as short as possible.
3. Please do not start lining up too early. Drop off begins at 8:40 a.m. If your child
would like to eat breakfast at school, please pull forward in the outer left lane to be let in the cafeteria at 8:35)
4. End of day dismissal is 3:45 p.m. Lining up before 3:30 causes traffic congestion. Please consider allowing our younger families (K-2) to get their earlier. Families with siblings and children in grades can arrive closer to 3:50.
*Did you know we have a PaperGator in our back parking lot? This is a great way to support our PTO and Emmons Lake Elementary. Recycling materials raises money for our school and is a great way to be eco-responsible! Items that can go in the bin are newsprint, catalogs/magazines, office/school papers, hard or soft covered books.
*PowerSchool Daily Screener has some updated questions. We are hoping this provides clarity as we navigate through these times. Thanks for completing this each day!
A Message from Food Service
2019-2020 Free/Reduced applications expire on October 7th, 2020. Currently all students are receiving free breakfast and lunch through the USDA. This program is set to expire December 31st, 2020 or when the money runs out. Because this could happen sooner than the December 31st date, we suggest filling out a new application before last year's application expires to prevent a gap in coverage. If you are new to Caledonia Schools, you will need to fill out a new application in our district. The fastest and most efficient way to fill out an application is online at www.lunchapp.com. If you have any questions, please contact Caledonia Food Service at (616) 891-0227.

Message from the Principal...
Wrapping up week 7 and we are starting to settle in. Thanks for your continued support, collaboration, and team effort as we move forward together this year. As we get ready to dive into week 8 of learning at school, we want to wish you a fabulous weekend with your family.
This week, you received two important notes that need to be returned: Parent/Teacher Conferences and Photo/Video Permission slip. Thank you for getting these back to us so quickly. While we would rather be in person for conferences, we are looking forward to having some time to sit down and chat with our families.
Just a quick reminder regarding Halloween. It will look different this year, but we are excited to still give our students an opportunity to create memories! If your child would like, they may wear a costume or Halloween themed clothing to school on Friday, October 30. It is a half day of school and students will still be participating in normal activities like recess and specials. As silly as it may sound, choosing a costume in which your child can use the restroom independently is important too! Please consider a costume choice in which your child can participate in every day activities. Thanks for your help in this process.
