Bulldog News January 2020
Bendersville Elementary
Happy New Year!
by Mrs. Wolfe
I sincerely hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. We welcome 2020 and are excited to be back to school. January is a great time to buckle-down and focus our abilities on learning. We are now entering a very important educational period of instruction and testing for our children. During this time of year, it is critical that your children get to school on a consistent basis with an attitude of performance.

Successful December in Music
Students had an amazing musical December from caroling at the Outlets, to a fun-filled "Santa's Holiday Hoedown" musical, and ending with a spectacular concert and assembly presented by our band and chorus members. Kudos to all of our sixth-grade students who sang, danced, and presented our country western program for family and friends. Our concert even featured music arranged by our new band teacher, Mr. Schweizer. The fifth-grade band and chorus joined in the programs and presented beautiful music to a packed gymnasium and an enthusiastic audience.
We look forward to a spectacular Spring concert on Thursday, May 7 at the Biglerville High School that will include the newly-formed 4th grade band ensemble. Don't miss this musical extravaganza!

Cultural Arts Day
Cultural Arts Days will be coming to Bendersville Elementary on Friday, February 21. Students will spend half the day exploring the different arts and aspects of the Native American cultures throughout our continent. Specialist teachers, guest artists and volunteers will provide games, food, artifacts, stories, and a wide variety of activities for your children to see, hear, learn, and enjoy. If your child has clothing that represents this culture, they are welcomed to dress in Native American clothing for the day.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in our annual Jump rope for Heart event the week of February 3-10, 2020. Donations raised will go to the American Heart Association. (AHA) All students will be joining in the fun during their Physical Education class.
Students who raise money will earn thank you gifts from the AHA. Collection envelopes and more information will be sent home soon with the students. Please consider a donation to this worthwhile cause.

News from Box Tops
Thank you to all that participate in our Box Tops program! This year alone, we have earned over $500 to use towards our students.
In our last competition that concluded with the winter break, Mrs. Kissner's class scored the win and will receive hot chocolate and cookies. Our next competition will run from now until the end of February. The prize has yet to be determined

Volunteer Clearances
Field trip season is right around the corner. Don’t delay in updating your clearances. Clearances obtained online have a quick turnaround time while clearances by mail can take weeks or more.
Please note that once obtained, clearances are good for 5 years regardless of volunteer hours. The revised Volunteer Policy can be found on the www.upperadams.org.
Student Council
The Bendersville Bulldog Student Council paired up with students in the after-school program for a service project. They made gingerbread houses to bring some cheer to our local elderly community. The students either donated their house to SpiriTrust Lutheran Senior Living or to an elderly neighbor or family member. See pictures below!
