Principal's Message
Student Vaccination Information
This is the most recent information I have received regarding the COVID-19 vaccination clinics being offered by the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health. You should have received a separate message regarding the consent form and pre-vaccination checklist. If you want your child to participate in the vaccination clinic, these must be filled out and the original hard copy returned to our main office as soon as possible. The consent form and pre-vaccination checklist have been attached to this message for your convenience. If you cannot print the form at home, please stop by our front office for a copy. Both Option 1 and Option 2 students enrolled at Ocean Lakes High School may participate in this clinic.
While the Food and Drug Administration has authorized the vaccine for 12 to 15-year-old children, the process of moving that approval to the local level is still underway. Parents who wish to have their 12-15-year-old child vaccinated should immediately complete and return a signed consent form. When children 12+ are officially authorized to receive the vaccine, you will be notified to register your child. As a reminder, these clinics are still scheduled to serve only students enrolled in our school.
Clinic schedule
The vaccination clinics will be open during the regular school day and staffed by health professionals from the VBDPH with assistance from VBCPS school nurses. The goal is to enable all interested students the ease of access to the vaccination. The vaccination is not required, and there is no cost to you.
The schedule for the clinic at Ocean Lakes High School is:
First dose
Tuesday, May 25
Second dose
Tuesday, June 15
You must register and make appointments for your child’s vaccinations.
Registration process
Both Option 1 and Option 2 students enrolled at Ocean Lakes may register for the clinic. Please click on the dose-specific links below, which will take you through registering your child and selecting a time for both doses of vaccination.

If your child requires school bus transportation, please schedule the vaccination no later than 1:20 p.m. to ensure that your child can catch the bus. The 1:30-2:30 p.m. hour is intended to provide a vaccination opportunity for Option 2 and other students who do not need the school bus. If you need assistance with this process or have questions, please contact the school office.
We encourage you to talk to your health care provider with any specific questions regarding the COVID-19 vaccination. You may also call the Virginia Department of Health hotline, 877-ASK-VDH3 (877-275-8343), and there are translation services available at that number. The Virginia Beach Department of Public Health's email is vb_health@vdh.virginia.gov.
Mask Requirement Update
VBCPS acknowledges the CDC announced that vaccinated individuals no longer need to distance themselves or wear masks in most situations socially. However, specific school guidance on these changes in safety mitigation is expected in the coming days, and we will need time to work with the health department to understand expectations. I will keep you informed and make any adjustments to our policy at that time. In the meantime, we will continue to follow this guidance from the Virginia Department of Health: Face coverings are still required indoors and outdoors at our schools and administrative buildings. Additionally, all VBCPS students must wear face coverings at bus stops, on school buses, and in school buildings. When engaged in outdoor activities, mask-wearing is expected if students are unable to maintain 6 feet of physical distancing. However, when outdoors, students who can maintain more than 6 feet of physical distancing may remove their face covering.
Adjusted Dismissals in June
Summer School
Register your child now for the most robust summer school opportunities ever offered to Virginia Beach families! Children whose parents are residents of the City of Virginia Beach are eligible to attend summer school classes at VBCPS. There have been cost reductions for summer school classes as a result of COVID-19. High school summer classes will be held from Tuesday, June 29, through Monday, August 16. New this summer will be Boost Opportunities for science and math courses, designed to build the skills necessary for success during the 2021-2022 school year. The program offerings and schedules vary based upon the grade and/or option chosen. Please visit our summer school webpage and click on the appropriate grade level. If you have questions regarding summer school, please contact your child's school counselor.
Graduation - OLHS Graduation on June 18 at 1:30 p.m. - Reprint
As has been recently announced, VBCPS intends to hold all graduation ceremonies at the Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater. The process of finalizing contracts with the facility is still underway, so the schedule posted is tentative. As families plan for this event, please know that we will only use the seating area under the amphitheater canopy. Allowing for that and COVID-19 spacing restrictions, each graduate will receive between two and six tickets for guests. All graduations will be live-streamed. As more information is released, I will keep you updated. Currently, our graduation is scheduled for June 18 at 1:30 p.m.
Senior Yard Signs - Reprint
On Tuesday, May 11, we began distributing Class of 2021 graduation yard signs to all Option 1 students during their last block of the day. Once there is gas back in the station pumps, we will deliver the signs that have not been picked up (likely the end of next week and next weekend). Until then, graduation signs can be picked up in the main office between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Option 2 students (virtual students) can come to school to pick up their signs; otherwise, they will be delivered to them at their home. Signs were ordered for ALL graduating seniors. If you have any questions, please contact the school at (757) 648-5550.
June 11 Senior Day - Farewell Fun with the Class of 2021! - Reprint
On Friday, June 11th, we will celebrate our seniors at Ocean Lakes High School. The day will be filled with games (volleyball, corn hole, four square, Pictionary, heads up, etc.), yearbook signing, and memory-making. The fun and festivities will last from 7:20 a.m. to noon. Current COVID mitigation protocols require those in attendance to wear a mask and stay within small groups while rotating through activities. After an activity-packed morning, seniors will move to the football field for food (a complimentary picnic lunch) and fellowship. Seniors must sign up for Senior Day by May 28th. If a senior is not signed up, they will not be able to participate. No late sign-ups will be accepted. The sign-up link can be found in the Class of 2021 Senior Group in Schoology.
The Class of 2021’s Next Chapter - Reprint
To recognize and celebrate our seniors, we are in the process of creating a slideshow that highlights every graduating senior and what they will be doing in the Next Chapter of their life. For example, some graduates will enroll in a college, university, or trade school. Others will enlist in the military, and some will go directly into the working world. Each slide will have the student’s picture, plan, and any awards or scholarships they would like to highlight. The slides will be put together, so they run on a loop with music in the background. The slideshow will be available for students to view on Senior Day, and a recording will be made available for parents. In addition to the slideshow, we will have a keynote address. This will take the place of our annual Awards Day.
MSA Senior Ceremony - Reprint
We are pleased to announce we intend to host a Senior Ceremony this year for the MSA Class of 2021. However, we do not have all the details because we are waiting for more information from the CDC and VBCPS about COVID protocols and in-person participation limitations. We ask that you reserve the evening of June 14, 2021, as this will be the date for the ceremony. Worst case scenario, we live-stream the event with students only attending in-person (1:00 p.m.). In the best-case scenario, we can have an in-person program with students and their parents in attendance (6:30 p.m.). Once we know more, we will send more detailed information about the ceremony. Thank you for your continued support and patience as we safely prepare for this event.
