The Howler
Staff Newsletter - Week of September 19-23, 2016
Principal's Message
Towards the end of this past week, I was able to observe something amazing...teachers lifting one another up! The generosity of staff members here at York to help lift up one another is astounding! The fact that individuals offer to help each other when a need arises speaks volumes about what we will be able to accomplish this year. Thank you for having loving hearts, compassion, and support for one another. Thank you for putting students first by supporting one another!

Join York PTA!
Please make sure to also send them "wordie birdies" as I know they would appreciate getting some love every now and then too.
Once York family...always York family
Best wishes to Dion Malloy as he beings a new chapter in his career as an educator. He will be going to a new position at Millbrook High School as an AU 4 Teacher. Friday September 16th is his last day with us. However, once York family...always York family. Please join me in giving him a HUGE York Howl as we send him off to his next exciting adventure!
Self-Assessments & PDPs - Yep, it's that time!
Self Assessments & PDP's are due Friday September 30th
online using the NCEES system.
In regards to creating your PDP goals, please make sure your goals align in at least one of two ways:
1. Alignment of your goals to the WCPSS strategic plan and York SIP plan
2. Incorporation of the 4C's (part of the strategic plan)
Make sure that your PDP goals are written with the SMART format in mind:
Is your goal strategic?
Is it measurable?
Is it attainable in a school year's time?
Is it relevant to the work you do? (think CORE instruction/MTSS/TIPS)
Is it time bound?

Please take time to sign up in a slot that will work for your class. Pictures will be taken on stage in the gym. The only students who will have picture taken will be students who pay. Please lock forms and money in a secure place, then hand packet to student when it is time to have picture taken.

Learner Profiles - It's not too late!
4th grade completed profiles with their students - feel free to ask them about that process if you want to know more. As a mom, it was interesting to see what my daughter marked on her profile. It confirmed what I knew and surprised me for what I thought I knew about her.
Here are some resources that might help you if you are interested in building your classroom connections further. There's lots out there!

Tech Talk
At my previous school teachers had started using the Front Row website. It is a free site that has math and ELA resources as well as allows teachers to track student progress on the teacher dashboard. Check out this video to see if this is something that might be helpful for you and your students.
