TEACHER APPRECIATION:
It's teacher appreciation week! Enjoy treats from the kids and parents all week! The appreciation luncheon will be on Friday from 11:00-1:00. Please make sure that your parent volunteers have appropriate activities for your class to do while you enjoy the luncheon.
SLO:
Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to get your SLOs completed. Today is the deadline. If you have not completed that, no worries. Keep working on it! If you are having challenges in getting that submitted, let us know and we will help you.
STAFF NEWS:
Jodi Hughes' father has been ill for some time and is currently in the hospital as he has been battling lung cancer. Jodi is there with her family at this time as he is not doing well. Our thoughts go out to her and her family at this difficult time. We will keep you posted.
We are also very sad to tell you that Adriana Amador's brother-in-law was killed in a car accident on Thursday. He leaves behind his wife (Adriana's sister) and young children. Her sister is a housewife, and the family greatly depended on him. Adriana said they are a very close-knit family, and he was more like a brother to her. You can imagine how devastating this must be for their family.
The office staff is going take up a collection to send to Adriana's sister. If you would like to contribute, feel free to bring cash or a check to the front office. You can also send money via PayPal using the email address kkmcdavid@gmail.com and Kristen will make sure that it is all delivered to Adriana's sister.
ISIP EOY TESTING WINDOW OPENS MAY 1ST:
The end of the year testing window for ISIP on Istation has arrived! Please begin to plan for testing students either in the computer lab or classroom. The deadline for testing is May the 19th. Please let Leah know if you need help with testing or interpreting results.
CLASS MAKING:
Thank you for your thoughtful approach to class making! This is a multi-step process and we will continue to refine the classes. I will set up a time for special area teachers and intervention teachers to review the classes. And, each grade level will have another opportunity to look at the classes again as needed. Thanks for your hard work on creating classes for the 2017-2018 school year.
GRADES:
The last report period is quickly approaching. Please make sure you are entering grades weekly so you are not burning the midnight oil. Report card posting window opens May 17, 7:00 am and closes May 25 at 6:00 pm. Please make sure you have proper documentation if you are retaining or placing a child for next year. Be sure that you have talked to Janna about any student retentions.
- Promoted – All students are automatically promoted. These are students that are at grade level and ready to move on to the next grade for the 2017-2018 school year.
- Retained – If a student is Retained, a meeting must be held and documentation is required. These are students that will stay in their current grade for the 2017-2018 school year.
- Placed – If a student is Placed, a meeting must be held and documentation is required. These are students that are on the cusp of being retained, and a committee met to decide that they would be ‘Placed’ in the next grade for the 2017-2018 school year.

OWL'S NEST:
Do you have a student or family in need of clothing/shoes? We want any needy student at Doss to have the opportunity to come "shop" in the Owl's Nest before the summer break. Please send the name of these students to Shanna Riggsbee, and we will set up a time for them to come to the Owl's Nest.
FACULTY MEETINGS:
See the dates for our remaining faculty meetings below:

TROJAN TREK:
On May 7th Doss will hold our inaugural Fun Run with our friends from Hill Elementary. The run will be called TROJAN TREK! Join us for this fun, family-friendly, 1 mile run at Anderson High School from 2:00-4:00PM. Each school will have a different colored shirt so be sure to get yours at Family Fitness Night and show up for the event so our Doss Pride shines! Registration for the run is free, and we will offer online registration until May 4.
MAY 26TH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
In regard to May 26th BLENDED Learning Summit, staff in grades 3-5 need to register for the morning session. Primary teachers will be heading to AHS for the TRBI training. That training is from 8:00-9:45 am. You do not have to pre-register for this training. Just show up.
It is super easy to remove your registration from the BLENDED summit. Log on to HCP and go to professional development, and delete the unwanted session or sessions. Unfortunately, I am not able to do that for you.
All staff will return to the Doss Campus and sign in for planning / prep for the rest of the day. We will post sign in sheets in both teacher lounges.
WEST AUSTIN STUDIO TOUR:
Murchison Middle School is participating in the West Austin Studio Tour (WEST) this year! This is a large city-wide event in which galleries and artists open up their doors to the public with special exhibitions, tours of their work space, and various other activities. Murchison is one of only four AISD schools participating, and it is sure to be an exciting event, as they have many activities planned for our day. Here are the details:
Where: Murchison Middle School Bus Drive, Foyer and Cafeteria
When: Saturday, May 13th from 11am-6pm.
On the day of, students will be painting 1 or 2 murals of Matadors to beautify the school on ply-wood, be sculpting a “Dale Chihuly inspired Chandelier” out of recycled water bottles, showcasing some Chinese calligraphy, displaying artwork from the entire school year made by students. We are proud of the Anderson vertical team and what our visual art teachers do with our students all year. This is a great opportunity to show the important role visual arts plays in the education of “the whole child.”
FACILITIES:
The district has approved the AISD Facility Master Plan and Doss Elementary is scheduled for a full renovation and addition. We are also getting another school in our area. We have begun the pre-design work with the consultants and some of your teammates attended this meeting yesterday. The design of the new school and the proposed renovations are very exciting!! The renovation will be a multi-phased project lasting about 2 years from the start of the project (design and build work).
The consultants have stated that 300 students will be moved from Doss to the new school. The boundary change process will not occur until after the bond is passed in November.
Please stay tuned! Soon we will get some rough drawings to show you regarding the Doss Renovations and addition.
KRONOS TRAINING:
KRONOS training will be provided to all staff that clock in and out. This includes all TAs, retire/rehires, and office staff. (Custodians and cafeteria staff are not included in this round of training). Doss is scheduled to receive this training on May 17th from 3:15-4:15 in the Doss Jane Willis Library. KRONOS is our new time keeping system.
