EOC Parent Information
This spring, your student will participate in the Missouri Assessment Program End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments. Designed to measure academic progress and proficiency, these standardized assessments are administered to students taking Algebra I, Algebra Ib, Biology, English II, Government and Personal Finance.
The EOC assessments evaluate student progress toward the Missouri Learning Standards. Missouri Learning Standards define the knowledge and skills students need in each grade level and course for success in college, careers, and other post-secondary training. These expectations are aligned to the Show-Me Standards, which define what all Missouri high school graduates should know and be able to do.
The results of the EOC assessments are used to identify areas of strength and growth for each student, and provide information to help guide the instruction and curriculum in classrooms. In addition, the results are used to create a school and district accountability report published by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
At Houston High School, we strive to provide our students with the best possible educational experience. The EOC assessments provide an important snapshot of each student’s academic progress and can help inform our instruction. The EOC assessments will also serve as the student’s comprehensive final for Algebra I, Algebra Ib, Biology, English II, Government and Personal Finance. Scores will be provided to the school district shortly after the student has completed the assessment and will be used as part of their course grade.
To help your student prepare for the EOCs we ask that you be aware of the testing schedule (included below) and be certain that your student has had adequate rest. If possible, avoid scheduling appointments during days your student is scheduled to test.
If you have any questions about assessments, please do not hesitate to contact your student’s teacher or our school office.
Thank you for your continued support of Houston High School and our students.

Speech and Debate
HHS Speech and Debate program inducted three students - Lee Skaggs, Krystalyn Haider and Robby Eastman - into the National Speech and Debate Honor Society, the National Forensic League. Each student all earned merit degrees for their participation in the 2023-24 speech season.
The National Forensics League recognizes students for participation in speech and debate activities. Students in the National Forensics League are held to the highest standards of humility, equity, integrity, respect, leadership, and service. Character, personal accountability, and social responsibility have been the keystones of the League since 1925. Members earn merit points through competition, service, and leadership activities. Whether they're debating in the classroom, volunteering, speaking at a rally, or acting on stage, students use what they learn in speech and debate every day. These skills will follow them as they work to improve their schools and communities.
