The Carleton Chronicle
6th Grade Edition June 4, 2021
Welcome 6th Graders and Parents!
We would like to welcome the 6th grade students to Carleton and tell you a little bit about what to expect in the coming year. The transition to middle school can be a little intimidating to not only the students, but to the parents as well. It is our goal to make this a smooth and comfortable experience by preparing you for what is ahead!
Colt Registration Days will be August 24-26, 2021. We will let you know the specific day/time for the 6th grade students. However, you will be able to come on any of those days if one works better than another. During that time, your student will turn in any required paperwork, receive their schedules, books and locker assignments, get their school pictures and ID’s, and have the opportunity to walk the halls and practice opening their lockers. They will also be given an agenda which will help keep them organized throughout the semester and will also be used as a hallway pass.
During the summer you can help prepare your student by purchasing some basic school supplies as well as a cheap combination lock. Practicing opening a lock will help reduce the new school year nervousness and anxiety that often comes with having to open a locker. Also, it will be best to only purchase basic supplies, like pencils, notebooks, folders, highlighters, etc., as often the teachers have their own requirements for supplies.
It is our intention to host an Open House this fall or a Sixth Grade Orientation so that parents have the opportunity to get to know their student’s teachers and visit their classrooms. However, this will depend on any restrictions that could be in place at that time with regard to community health.
Communication during the year comes in a few different forms. We publish a weekly newsletter called the Carleton Chronicle. This newsletter gets posted on the Carleton webpage and emailed to parents. It contains important information such as upcoming dates as well as highlighting activities and other events our students are participating in during a specific week. Also, we use robo calls and emails to remind parents of upcoming events, deadlines, and other pertinent information. Please be sure you have an active PowerSchool account. We will provide more information regarding PowerSchool during registration.
We look forward to seeing you and your student during the Colt Days in August. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the office at 586-825-2590. You can also reach out to your student’s counselors during the year if any issues arise, including peer and/or personal conflicts. The counselors are Amy Lenz (A-K) at alenz@wcskids.net and Debbie Lane (L-Z) at lane@wcskids.net or call the above number to speak to them.
