Third Quarter News and Reminders
Updates from the MTCS Secondary Guidance Office
FROM MRS. HURT...
Is it really 3rd quarter already? I can still remember our first day of school in August, which seems like just yesterday. What a great year it has been so far! There is quite a bit of academic information to update you on in this newsletter, so be sure to read all the way to the end. As always, let me know if you have any questions.
DUKE TIP
Several MTCS 7th graders qualified and will be taking the ACT on Saturday, Feb. 6th. Students qualify for this test based on 6th grade achievement test scores. If your child plans to test, be sure to print off the admission ID ticket found using the link below.
Sending PRAYERS for our test takers!
SPRING SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS
Grades 7-10 will be taking the ACT EXPLORE and PLAN tests in April of this year. These tests will allow us to track student growth and evaluate our curriculum. More information will be sent home regarding testing dates in the near future.
In addition, grades 3-9 will be participating in a pilot test for ACT Aspire in February/March. The purpose of this pilot is to prepare our students and teachers as we transition to this new test.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP RUTHERFORD
Youth Leadership Rutherford applications are now available for next year's class. MTCS has been well-represented in this program each year, and it is a great opportunity for students to learn more about our local community, government, businesses, and leadership. It is open to rising 12th graders, and the deadline to apply is February 19th. Use the following link for more information and to apply.
ACT INFORMATION
MTCS will be administering the ACT test on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 to those juniors and seniors who pre-registered with Mrs. Hurt. The test will be given in the Varsity Gym, and a pre-administration session will be held to complete demographic information. An email was sent home over the weekend regarding the $39.50 charge that will appear on your MTCS statement.
Also, please be aware that the April ACT is the last one that can qualify students for dual enrollments courses as juniors or seniors. We currently offer three dual classes through Lipscomb with the following minimum requirements.
US History- 21 composite
Bible- 21 composite
College Algebra and Trigonometry- 21 composite and 21 on math subsection
