To check the students' comprehension of Yiddish words used in songs, poems and conversations described, they are asked to match common Yiddish words and their meanings. In this SMART NOTEBOOK file, each page (for a total) contains

a different game asking them to guess the letter (earning points for each correct letter) - until they spell the word, based on a clue, which is the English translation of the Yiddish word.

The students learn about traditional songs sung in the Jewish communities in Eastern Europe such as the Yiddish song "Oyfen Pripetshik". Through this VOICETHREAD, they are invited to listen to the song and begin a conversation about what this song teaches them about Jewish life in Eastern Europe and feelings the song elicits (whether if it is familiar, or not).
