Notes from the Nurse

7th graders need 1 TDAP and 1 MCV4 to be up to date for enrollment.

If your student received shots during their 11 year well-child checkup then they will be up to date. The school does not have access to the doctors records so we would need a copy. The easiest way to get it to me is through email: Tracy.solis@nisd.net.

Counselor's Corner

We are pleased to announce that we have a new counselor joining our Counseling Department here at Hobby Middle School. Her name is Mrs. Lisa Covington and she will be overseeing students with last names G-O. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and her Master of Science degree in Professional School Counseling. Mrs. Covington has been a professional school counselor for approximately 17 years and has worked at both the elementary and high school levels. She is originally from Iowa but has called San Antonio her home for the last 12 years. She and her husband love traveling and are always sure to take their fur baby, Willow, along with them. We are delighted to have Mrs. Covington as part of our Hobby Hawks family.

Attention all 8th grade Spanish 2 students!

Free College Credits?!? Yes, please!!

The window has now opened for students to apply for Dual Credit for the 22-23 school year. It is a multi-step process to apply with strict deadlines. Please follow the packet to ensure that you fill things out correctly and on time. All information you need can be found on the Clark Dual Credit Website including the classes we offer. (For incoming freshmen, the only option is Spanish 3). Step one is the Apply Texas application. It is due February 16th, but it is recommended that you complete it ahead of time in case there are any issues. Follow along with the step by step instructions to do the application. We will have an informational middle school parent meeting on Tuesday, January 18th at 6:00 in the Clark Library to discuss Dual Credit. Please visit the website to learn more about Dual Credit and find all of the tools you will need to ensure your student gets to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. If you have any questions, please email dlayne.kelly@nisd.net.

School Calendar Amended to Allow More Teacher Planning Time

At this week’s Board meeting, Trustees approved changes to the District’s 2021-2022 school calendar to give teachers more planning time.

These five Teacher Planning Time/Student Early Dismissal Days are Jan. 26, Feb. 16, March 23, April 20, and May 18.

Elementary schools will dismiss at 11:45 a.m., middle schools at 12:40 p.m., and high schools at 1 p.m. Breakfast and sack lunches will be provided on these days. For families who need it, adult supervision will be available at all elementary schools, so students can remain on campus until the end of the normal school day. Learning Tree will also be available at traditional times.
