National Inclusion Week
What are the goals of Inclusive Schools Week?
• Celebrate the progress of schools in educating an increasingly diverse student population
• Acknowledge the hard work and commitment of schools, families and communities in creating inclusive opportunities for all children regardless of disability, gender, ethnicity, language, health status, etc.
• Encourage reflection on how culture, policies and practices in schools can promote inclusive education
• Promote action to increase the capacity of schools and communities to meet the needs of all learners.
The North Star School's mission is to meet the needs of all its learners by providing an inclusive, equitable and personalized learning environment. We thank all our community members for their work each day to making this happen.

Lets test your knowledge: 1) Fact or Fiction: Turkey contains an amino acid that makes you sleepy. 2) Fact or Fiction: In 1863, Abraham Lincoln became the first American president to proclaim a national day of thanksgiving.. To find the answers to these and others, and to help us all better understand the true history of Thanksgiving, access this link (https://www.history.com/topics/thanksgiving/thanksgiving-quiz) from history.com. Perhaps this will give you something to talk about at Thanksgiving other than politics! For more history about Thanksgiving, watch this video about the first Thanksgiving meal. https://www.history.com/topics/thanksgiving/first-thanksgiving-meal-video
Ms. Johnston’s class is exploring the open letter genre and analyzing the author's intended audience, purpose, and techniques. Ms. Levy's classes have stopped in the United States on our literature world tour. The students have enjoyed learning about Emerson, Thoreau, Whitman, Poe and many more. Mr. Hearn’s class is wrapping up final projects.
Book Club
Mrs. Swierczynski, North Star’s reading specialist and Mrs. Noland, North Star’s library media specialist are beginning a Project Lit Book Club. Project Lit is a national, grassroots literacy movement, a network of dedicated teachers and students who are committed to increasing access to culturally relevant books and promoting a love of reading in our schools and communities.
Mrs. Swierczynski and Mrs. Noland visited English classes doing booktalks on many of the diverse books that North Star’s library holds. They were hoping to entice students to join a Project Lit Book Club that would be held during all lunches. The first organizational meeting was held on Thursday, Nov. 18th. Students and Staff came and shared various books that they are currently reading. The next meeting will be Thursday, Dec. 16th
