News and Notes for Parents at Plymouth North

Junior Prom & The Last Week for Seniors!

Friday was the last day for Seniors of regular classes and Friday night was our Junior Prom... can you believe it!?!? While there's still quite a bit left on the schedule to celebrate our seniors as well as our underclassmen, we are inspired and amazed by the success that our Seniors have had this school year.

We're ready to give them their final exams, sing their praises over the next two weeks, and send them off at a uplifting commencement ceremony where they take that first step into the world as high school graduates. It will be a whirlwind two weeks, but it will be fun!

For the rest of our Eagles... there is still quite a bit to think about. MCAS, Exams, Underclassmen Awards, and the spring sports push to major victories are still to come!

LOTS to be excited for at Plymouth North High School! It's a GREAT time to be an Eagle!

Mr. Odell's students took to the roof (don't worry... they were safe!) to understand how the PNHS Solar Panels work and to measure how much energy they produce every day.

Dr. Farren is empowering her students by giving them opportunities to show their learning via Artifact Boxes, Book Club Mini-Lessons & Poetry Day "teach outs"!

2. Senior Events Calendar

Senior Final Exams are Monday through Thursday this week! The countdown is real!

3. Lifetouch Graduation Photo Information

Lifetouch will be providing professional photography services at Graduation.

Feel free to register in order to be notified when event images and proofs are available for purchase at our lifetouch graduation website at the link below.

Complimentary proof sets will be mailed home within 14 business days.

Please do not set up cameras during the ceremony as they detract from others' view.

4. Math MCAS for Sophomores

Our Math MCAS testing is taking place this coming Tuesday and Wednesday, May 21st and 22nd. Testing begins right away at the start of the school day, so it’s important for students to be in school and on time both days.

As I’m sure you know, passing MCAS is a graduation requirement, but also the very best scores qualify students for the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship for free tuition at Massachusetts in-state Colleges and Universities.

There is a practice test that students can take to see what the test is like, prepare for the format, and hopefully alleviate any test anxiety before Tuesday. Feel free to have your child take the practice test!

As a reminder, we serve breakfast in the cafeteria every day, so feel free to send them in early to get a great start to the day!

Thank you for all your help preparing our kids for some great results!

6. Biomedical Program Senior Showcase

The first four year program graduates of the Biomedical program were celebrated at the inaugural Biomedical Senior Showcase. IT was a great opportunity to recognize an incredible group of seniors who did amazing things within this impressive program! We can't wait to see the heights these students achieve with their foundations in Biomed! Congrats to Ms. Raymond & Ms. Rozak on all their contributions to the successes these seniors have had in their four years with them!

7. Tech Studies Senior Showcase

The Cafeteria was full of inspiration at the Annual Tech Studies Senior Showcase last week. Seniors presented absolutely incredible projects and experiences that provided them life long knowledge in our Engineering, Marketing, Facilities Management and Allied Health Programs. These programs are impressive, and the students do some amazing things because of the hard work of their teachers! A heartfelt thank you goes out to their teachers: Mr. Bastoni, Ms. Schram, Ms. Goulet, Ms. Figlioli, Mr. South & Ms. Drew... as well as Ms. Kelleher, Mr. Baker & Ms. Sylvia for making our tech programs SHINE!

8. SeniorFest!

Big picture
Let the celebration of the Class of 2019 begin! For our May 15th half day, our seniors were treated to a day to come together and enjoy one of the last few days of their high school careers. After breakfast, the students had a blast out on the turf and enjoying ice cream! Thanks to Ms. Wolcott & Ms. McWhirter for all their hard work putting it together!

9. DECA goes INTERNATIONAL!

After qualifying at regionals and states, 30 PNHS Eagles travelled to Orlando to compete (and win!) on the International Stage! Congratulations to Liz Levis & Brooke Petersen who were finalists for their Entrepreneurship Promotion Plan and named top 10 in the WORLD! Also, big congratulations go to Emma Healy who was named a finalist, and Bobby Murray who won 2 silver medals and was also named a finalist! Great job to all who competed and thank you to Ms. Schram, Ms. Figlioli & Ms. Goulet who worked so hard to get them ready for the big stage!

10. SkillsUSA goes GOLD!

PNHS was represented by 16 incredible Eagles at the SkillsUSA state competition in Marlborough who earned the opportunity to go after competing and winning on the district level. Not only did PNHS win the "Gold Level Chapter of Distinction" honor, but Eric Chase, Allison Varao, Gabby DeOliveira, Hope Manion, Rachael Peterson & Brenna Tobin all won medals! Gabby, Hope, Rachael & Brenna will compete in the NATIONAL competition in Kentucky in June! Congratulations to SkillsUSA and Ms. Drew for all their hard work!

11. Intergenerational Debate Club

Big picture
2 years ago, PNHS students Victoria Fumino, Maggie Mallon & Christian Guzman worked to form the Plymouth Intergenerational Debate Club. Multiple times a year, students from PNHS went over to the Council on Aging to meet with Plymouth Seniors to discuss and debate a wide range of topics. It's a great experience for our students and for those at the center!

Recently the COA decided to recognize Victoria, Maggie & Christian for their efforts, and provided them an award and honors for their efforts at building a bridge between the two groups in such a positive way! We are so proud of these three and the positive effect they have had on our community!

12. Allied Health Pinning

In a thoughtful, fun and classy event this week, the students in the Allied Health program that passed the state testing to be certified as a CNA were recognized and honored with the "pinning" ceremony that officially welcomes them to the profession. After months of preparation and hard work, these incredible students made the grade and were the honorees at an amazing celebration. Thanks to Ms. Drew & Ms. Gargiulo for their guidance, and Ms. Sylvia for her leadership! Congratulations!

13. Spring Sports Success!

Big picture

Aiden Campbell & Sadie Fosdick were named Patriot League Scholar Athletes for the Class of 2019 in a ceremony at the South Shore Country Club last week.

From Unified Track to Softball & Baseball... PNHS Athletics is on fire this season! Softball & Baseball keep racking up the W's, our lacrosse teams have scored dozens of goals, our tennis teams see success home and away, and our track teams seem to break school records at EVERY meet! The sky is TRULY the limit for these Eagle athletes... we can't wait to see how far they go!

14. SPEAK Week

Big picture
In an effort to spread kindness and positivity here at PNHS, our Adjustment Counselor, Ms. Antonellis worked to create "SPEAK" week that gives students an opportunity to give their voice in spreading positivity in our school community. Starting in Advisory last week, and continuing throughout this week, students were able to give ideas and create opportunities to support their fellow students and show the school they stand up against bullying and for those who need positivity!
