The Final Two Weeks
1. Maintain school and classroom expectations. When we give too much freedom, questionable behaviors begin to surface. It's similar to the phrase my dad always shared with me, "Nothing good happens after midnight." Follow your classroom behavior management plan just as you did during the beginning of school, and keep students working with relevant, engaging assignments.
2. May 17 is the deadline for grades to be posted for Awards Day purposes. The posting window opens on May 15, and will remain open for the remainder of the year. However, we need all grades posted by the 17th so we can send home awards day letters.
3. Olympic No-Go's - Please make sure that you have plenty of work for them to complete. "More than enough" should be your goal!
4. Schedule Adjustments - Don't forget that Mrs. Curtis provided you with alternate schedules for 5/22 (Yearbook Day) and 5/25 (Awards Day). Please see her email.
5. Yearbook Day - Yearbook team members will bring your HR yearbooks to you on the morning 5/22. Please follow Mrs. Wood's instructions for dissemenating them to students. Connections teachers will provide supervision in the gym during each grade level's connections periods for students to sign yearbooks. Please remind students that when they sign yearbooks, the should make certain that what they are writing is appropriate.
5. Awards Day Information - Please remember to complete the spreadsheet for Tracey by 10am on May 18th. We will send home invitations on May 19th. Review the criteria and work together as a grade level/team to determine the best candidates.
EOY Responsibiliites
Walls and Bulletin Boards - Please make sure that all walls and bulletin boards are clean. Next year, we will begin our journey in creating walls that teach throughout our building. While I am a sucker for motivational messages, awards, honors, and "something about me" walls, It will be important that the majority of our wall space is reserved for teaching rather than preaching. Additionally, many items have a tendency to fall due to the lack of AC.
Moving Rooms - Very few of you are making moves, and those moves have been or will be communicated in plenty of time. Please do not begin this process until May 30.
Packing Rooms - Westridge Church will be utilizing our building for their annual Surge Camp from June 12-June15. They will be using multiple classrooms including all Connections teachers' rooms. Please make sure that all items of value are either taken home for the summer, and locked away securely. This is an extremely large community event where all "walks of life" are welcomed. If you have specific questions about your room, please see Mr. Alverson.
Furniture Trading - Please do not trade any room furniture or other equipment. All requests must be submitted and approved by Mr. Alverson. Once approved, we will discuss a plan for this to occur.
Cleaning Rooms - One of the most important EOY needs is for you to clean your room of clutter. This will allow Mrs. Wanda and her Aramark staff to adequately and efficiently disinfect your room over the summer and have it ready for pre-planning. Please make sure that your room is clean.
FREE Summer PL Opportunity
If you are looking for a fun and different form of PL this summer, consider going to EdCamp! This is WAY outside the PL box and has potential to be an amazing experience. If you are a teacher that has great ideas and thoughts on something that you would like to share with others or would like help figuring out how to make your ideas work and flourish this might be for you! Check out the two minute video below for a better idea of how it will run.
EdCamp Paulding will be held on June 14 at the Diane Wright Innovation Center (old PB Ritch Elementary). The registration link is below the video.
I hope to see you there!
