Social psychology is the study of how others influence our thoughts, feelings, and actions. Since nearly everything we do is social, this is a broad filed of study. In this module, you will learn about several famous experiments including those conducted by psychologist Stanley Milgram, and the infamous Stanford Prison Experiment. We will also explore group mentality, individuals in society, and mass communication. To help you look deeper into these topics, check out the video from TeacherTube, and the Quizlet posted below.

One of the most famous studies of obedience in psychology was carried out by Stanley Milgram, a psychologist at Yale University. He conducted an experiment focusing on the conflict between obedience to authority and personal conscience.
Milgram (1963) examined justifications for acts of genocide offered by those accused at the World War II, Nuremberg War Criminal trials. Their defense often was based on "obedience" - that they were just following orders from their superiors.
