Community Update

Hello Students, Parents, and Staff,

We are transitioning to a new platform for the community updates called "Smore." This is a simple, easy to read newsletter template that will enable us to get information to the public quickly and efficiently. The newsletter "Vista Works for You" will be posted to the website, as well. We hope you enjoy the new format.

I have some great news to share with you during a time when good news is hard to come by. We are three weeks into the launch of the Vista Virtual School system. It is my pleasure to report to you that all five of these systems are up and running with impressive results. I have added a very brief update on the success of each system below. I end this newsletter with a fabulous video highlighting students and teachers interacting in the new Vista Virtual School system.

Check out the latest Vista Works for You video featuring students and teachers interacting in the Vista Virtual School environment below:

Vista Works For You: Update #5 - Virtual Learning

System 1 - Instruction

We have seen an incredible student response to the Google Classrooms our teachers and staff have designed. Over 96% of students across Vista (19,775 students to be exact) are interacting with their teachers and their peers using a variety of virtual learning tools like eBooks, Flipgrid, Pear Deck, and many other cool apps that engage students and teachers in learning. Our teachers and staff have done some incredible work getting their virtual classrooms up and running, including logging more than 1000 hours of professional development and collaboration collectively with their colleagues. You can see, first hand, what these experiences look like in the Vista Works for You video #5.

System 2 - Social/Emotional

We have over 60 counselors, social workers, and psychologists reaching out every day to students to proactively support them with individual counseling, social/emotional lessons, and special education related services.

System 3 - Health and Safety

Our nursing staff continues to reach into the community to engage parents and students in discussions and recommendations related to staying healthy during this COVID-19 crisis. The Health and Safety web page is consistently a popular destination for parents to find out the most recent updates from national, regional, and local sources.

System 4 - Nutrition

Our staff from across the district are pitching in to support our nutrition distribution by delivering more than 30,000 meals weekly to students. In addition, the Family and Community Engagement Network and the Student Services Department have partnered to distribute more than one ton (2000 pounds) of food to families weekly.

System 5 - Technology

Thanks to the hard work of Vista staff from every department, we have distributed computer devices to 70.3% of students in the district (14,447 computer devices). Additionally, we have distributed over 1,000 internet hotspots that provide internet connectivity to six computer devices at a time (that is 6,000 computer access points).
