PORT ANGELES SCHOOL DISTRICT
NEWS AND NOTES - February 2024
FEBRUARY IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH
February is Black History Month. Since 1976, each president of the United States has designated February as Black History Month. We would like to take a moment to recognize the valuable contributions of black educators, such as Booker T. Washington and Mary McLeod Bethune, to improving public education.
Let's use this time to celebrate the strength of unity and the power of education in fostering understanding and appreciation for our diverse history. Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
SUPERINTENDENT BREWER JOINS PAHS STUDENTS FOR A VISIT TO THE CAPITAL
Dear PASD Families,
Last month, I had the privilege of accompanying Stacey Sanders’ EWU Civics class on a visit to the State Capitol. Ms. Sanders coordinated a remarkable experience for our students, facilitating meetings with the Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Senator Javier Valdez, State Treasurer, and our local representatives. Witnessing our students’ knowledge, inquisitiveness, and eagerness to contribute positively to our state filled me with great pride.
Throughout the day, our students posed insightful questions, leaving a lasting impression on each legislator and state officer they interacted with. The impressive nature of their engagement even prompted one observer to remark, “These are really high school students?” I extend my gratitude to Ms. Sanders for providing this invaluable opportunity to the students at PAHS and for graciously inviting me to be a part of it.
Sincerely,
Superintendent Marty Brewer

This week is a special time where we take a moment to express our gratitude and appreciation for the incredible school counselors who play a crucial role in shaping the lives of our students.

THE WILDCAT CAFE OPENS NEXT MONTH
Lincoln students from the Salish Sea Ecotourism and Hospitality (SSEAH) program recently hosted a delicious lunch for the School Board, Superintendent Brewer, and Assistant. Superintendent Olsen at the new student-run Wildcat Café in the Lincoln Center. These talented students crafted a menu that wowed the School Board, and now they can't wait to share their culinary talents with the staff of the School District and the public.
The café opens for School District staff this week and plans to open to the public on Friday, March 1st.
Stand by for more info on their upcoming Grand Opening. Your support means the world to these students as they showcase their skills and dedication.
