DEVELOPING LIFELONG LEARNERS WHO GROW, LEAD AND INSPIRE
Rose from Concrete
In my "constant" basketball watching this weekend, I saw the video commercial posted below. Seeing Shelbyville neighborhoods instead of Chicago, the words intriguing and struck a cord in regard to our work:
"You see, you wouldn't ask why the rose that grew from concrete had damaged petals.
On the contrary, we would all celebrate it's tenacity. We would all love it's will to reach the sun."
Continue to support and encourage ALL of your student's "will to reach the sun" no matter what their soil, no matter the damage to their beautiful petals!
Leadership/College and Career Week
from Santina and Beth
- Monday: Begin With The End In Mind Classroom Booster. Discuss with your class how having a plan will help when choosing a career. It is never too early to begin with the end in mind! Re-visit workbook activities or check out some of the videos on www.leaderinme.org. Marilyn also has various books on different careers for you to check out from the library. Also, visit the link http://virginiacareerview.com/k5/check-it/kids-search/q4.cfm with your class this week to explore their career interests. You have all week to have the students complete the career inventory and explore the website. Beth will be emailing out the link to parents this week so that students can look at the website over the weekend if they would like to. Sign up sheet for the computer lab is on the computer lab door :)
- Tuesday: College Day. Teachers and staff to wear college spirit wear to represent where you went to school or wear attire from a college that you like. We have gotten some REALLY cool stuff from the colleges that you will be learning about in your class. Please take some time today to talk about your college that you were assigned with your class. Please have your students write thank you notes to the college that your classroom received thanking that college for sending information. The colleges would also like pictures of your students with items that they sent as well. Please feel free to email the picture to me and I will gladly print it. Thank you notes and pictures are due back to me at Tuesday staff meeting. The notes need to be papercliped together with the classroom name on them.
- Wednesday: Begin With The End In Mind Mix It Up Lunch: Talking points about careers will be provided. Please mix up the students that do not have assigned seats. If your students have assigned seats, please keep them in their assigned seats :) I will be in lunch to help facilitate.
- Thursday and Friday: Please make sure you have visited the website and explored career information with your students. Career fair will occur at a later date
