Mann Behavior Expectations
CLICK ON THE IMAGE (to the left) TO ACCESS OUR BEHAVIOR MATRIX. This document outlines our behavior expectations for every area of the building. Teachers will continue to reteach and practice these expectations throughout the school year with their students. Feel free to review these expectations with your child at home to help reinforce positive choices while at school.
A Note from Principal Payne . . .
Hello Mann Families -
I hope you and your families had a restful and enjoyable holiday and break while staying safe and healthy.
There are a few important items I wanted to share with you as we enter 2021 and our Spring semester.
As we shift into January 2021, we are excited to welcome back three of our teachers that have been teaching through the virtual capacity during the Fall 2020 semester. Mrs. Thomas will be shifting to teach seated kindergarten once again. Mrs. Wood will be shifting to teaching a combined 2nd and 3rd grade split class. And Mrs. McConnell will be shifting to teach seated 5th grade once again. Mrs. Waddell will remain teaching 2nd grade from Mann but in the virtual capacity for the Spring semester. We are excited to welcome these teachers back and the impact it will have on class size and ability to social distance. Shifts have been made to our current class lists and you should have heard from me, as well as the teacher, directly if your child was impacted in this manner. I so appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we worked to create balanced class lists that will help our entire student body be successful and keep class sizes small.
With the arrival of Baby Payne expected sometime in January, I will be taking some time away from my school family to spend with my home family. I want to take this time to introduce you to Mrs. Katy Knapp. Mrs. Knapp will be serving in my role during my time away and is very excited to step into this role. Currently Mrs. Knapp serves as the School Community Liaison at Delaware Elementary within SPS. Mrs. Knapp has shared some additional information about herself below. When the time comes, Mrs. Knapp will be here at Mann, available for anything that you would normally reach out to me for. You can contact her at kjknapp@spsmail.org or reach her by calling the main office.
It will be difficult for me to be away from our Mann Family and I will miss our students tremendously, but know all will be in good hands. One important thing to note right away will be the importance of continued use of carline tags. This will help Mrs. Knapp get to know you and your car and help to keep afternoon pick up quick and safe for all. In the coming week, we will be handing out new carline tags to all afternoon cars.
Thank you all for your continued support of our school. I am so proud to be a part of such a wonderful school community and family.
-Principal Payne
Red Tickets and PRIDE Focus Word
P.R.I.D.E. is our positive behavior support system here at Mann. P.R.I.D.E. at Mann stands for Positive*Respectful*Integrity*Dependable*Effort. During the month of January, we will be focusing on the word Dependable. Teachers talk about these words often with their stduents. This month they will be focused on the word Dependable and looking for students who exhibit this character trait to award Red Tickets to.

A Note from Mann PTA . . .
Happy New Year from Mann PTA! Thank you for your support during the first semester of this school year. Despite not doing any in-person events, we were still able to hold successful fundraisers where we raised over $1,500 through our McDonald’s and Papa John’s food nights and our Holiday Store and Candy Gram sales! Thank you for supporting PTA! These funds will be put to good use and help fund our budgets, which will in turn benefit our students and teachers.
Second semester will remain the same - no in-person events – but we do have some food nights scheduled and a new brick fundraiser project that we are excited about!
In January we will begin selling bricks to go in the ground underneath the new Horace Mann Elementary School sign that the PTA had put in last spring. The bricks are $25 each and have two lines available for engraving. An order form flyer with more information will be sent home with your student the first week of school. The order form can also be found on our Facebook page and website. Bricks will be available for purchase through March 11 and will be placed in the ground later in the spring/summer.
Mann Masks are still available for purchase (see picture below) through our square site and will be sent home with your student the week of or week after your purchase date. http://horacemannpta.square.site/
As always, you can contact us with any questions at teammannpta@gmail.com Be sure to follow our Facebook page at HoraceMannElementaryPTA or visit our website at //teammannpta.wixsite.com/horacemann to stay updated on what’s going on with PTA!
