A Message From Dr. Stabler
Today, Tuesday, March 20 is our annual Jaguar Safari for our up and coming kindergartners. Children need to be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2018. It begins promptly at 5:30 pm. If you have a prospective kindergartner please be sure to attend this informational event with your child.
I would like to thank you for responding to our Digital Learning Day survey. Your feedback was very valuable. We will certainly consider your comments when planning for any future digital learning days, should Fulton County Schools decide to implement them. Based on the overall feedback, the day went well, the student assignments were valuable and meaningful, and the students were able to engage in their work at their own pace. The parent comments ranged from parents really loving the experience to parents not preferring digital learning days or the activities at all. Please know that March 9 was a pilot. Fulton County Schools decided to utilize this day as a Digital Learning day in lieu of making up a day for inclement weather. Students worked from home and teachers reported to school. We collected feedback from parents, staff and students on how to leverage technology for instruction and to engage students in meaningful learning experiences. Should school be cancelled in the future, we will know how to proceed with planning instruction Again, thank you for providing feedback.
It is that time of year again, we need you to vote for a parent candidate to join our School Governance Council for the next two years. Please visit our school website for more information and to read each candidate's profile.
Abbotts Hill Students are AWESOME! I am so proud of our students for their accomplishments. Collaboratively, Abbotts Hill Staff, parents and PTA offer a variety of programs that address the interests of so many of our students. Please join me in congratulating all our students for a very successful Abbotts Hill Arts Night. Our students celebrated the performing arts by singing, dancing and playing instruments on Arts Night and gave a fabulous repeat performance on Friday morning for other students. In celebration of the visual arts, every child had a piece of framed artwork displayed and parents were provided with the opportunity to purchase them.
In recent weeks, we’ve had many students compete in many competitions. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all who competed!
History Bee – Naveen H, Srikar R, Sean H and Druva D competed at the Regional History Bee. Druva D. qualified and will compete at the National History Bee.
Spelling Bee – Suhuan A. was the school level winner and went on to compete at the county level.
Technology Fair – Reese H. placed 1st and Uday M. placed 3rd in the state in each of their Technology Fair categories.
Young Authors Competition – Logan H. and Mary Lois G. were school level winners who went on to compete at the county level.
Science Olympiad Team – The team placed 3rd in the county and will compete at the state level in May!
GREAT JOB! Again, I am so proud of our students and our staff and parents for providing such wonderful opportunities for our students.

Finally, I would like to thank our PTA for celebrating our staff during Staff Appreciation Week. They treated us like Stars. Also, a huge thank you to all the families who contributed supplies and their time to make this a special week for all our staff. It is our pleasure to work with you and your children. News From The Clinic
Seasonal Allergies and Pollen:
Pollen season is upon us and we are being told to expect a “burst” of things to bloom. Pollen counts tend to be highest early in the morning on warm, dry, breezy days and lowest during chilly, wet times. Students that come to the clinic with the below symptoms will be asked to wash their hands and face to remove any possible pollens:
• Itchy nose
• Runny nose
• Sneezing
• Watery eyes
• Itchy/Red Eyes
If a student is sensitive to pollen and seasonal allergies, a daily antihistamine may work well to relieve the symptoms. Allergy eye drops can be kept here at school for use but all Over the Counter medications need a SHS-1 form filled out and on file in the clinic. Students WILL NOT be allowed to stay indoors at recess due to a high pollen count. We would need a doctor’s note to do this on a routine basis. The note must include a start date, specifics of which days (ie. when pollen count is above a specific number, etc.), and end date.
Most patients can get relief from nasal allergy symptoms by making the following changes in and around their home:
• Keep the windows closed and run the air conditioner during allergy season
• Use an air purifier with a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter in your bedroom
• Change your clothes and wash your hands after coming home on a high-pollen day
• Take a shower and wash your hair before going to bed
• Clean and dust your home regularly and use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter
Many of the symptoms you see with allergies can also be indicative of the common cold. Symptoms that last for more than seven to 10 days are probably allergy related, colds rarely last more than a week. Fever and body aches are NOT indicative of nasal allergies; contact your physician for further advice if noticed.
Carpool Safety Reminder
Sincerely,
Dr. Roytunda Stabler, Principal
