Aztec Update January 22 2023
Principal's letter for parents and caregivers
21st week; AUSD Survey Window Open; Azusa Expo Jan 25, Middle School Visits Jan 26 and Jan 27
Good evening Aztecs!
We had a very busy last week with the return of our Google Parent Tech Workshops, Coffee with the Principal, and an on campus Army Expo on Friday. Students are getting to class on time more thanks to our tardy sweeps (we reduced daily tardies by 50 per day last week). We are getting prepared for a very busy week next week with the 8th grade expo in our gym at 6pm on January 25th and middle school visits next Thursday and Friday.
This week is the 3rd full week of the semester and it is a good time to check on student progress in Aeries. We want to catch patterns earlier this semester and assist students when they start to struggle.
The Winter Formal Dance was cancelled last week due to low student interest in the dance. We expect to see higher interest in our on campus Sadies Dance in spring as well as in Prom.
Annual Azusa USD Family Survey
Please help us get better as a school and district by providing your opinion on Azusa High School. The Youth Truth Survey Window is now open through February 3, 2023. You can access it at the following link:
http://www.ytsurvey.org/azusafamily23
So far we have had 11% of our families complete the survey. Our goal is 30% or more of families completing it. We need about 170 more families to complete the survey to meet our goal. Your voice matters. Thank you.
FAFSA update
We now have 108 seniors who have completed the FAFSA. The deadline for 1 extra graduation ticket is Jan 31. If your senior has not completed the FAFSA, now is a good time to earn an extra graduation ticket. Please reach out to the guidance office for assistance if you need help with this step. The FAFSA is important for community colleges, trade schools, and 4 year universities because the first step in getting financial aid is completing the FAFSA.
Early College Program with Citrus College (9th graders 23-24 and 11th graders 23-24)
Next year, 9th graders and 11th graders will have expanded opportunities to take college classes with Citrus College to begin earning college credit while enrolled in high school. Currently, parents of incoming ninth graders are being invited to apply to the program at the following link:
The Early College Program coordinator will be visiting 10th grade classrooms to explain the program to current AHS 10th graders on Jan 31. There will be a combined parent night to explain the ECP program to parents of 10th graders in February. More to come on this very soon.

Sports Updates
There are two weeks of league competition remaining for the Aztecs. On January 24 Azusa and Gladstone will play for the last time in boys and girls soccer and boys and girls basketball. We hope our community can come out and support our Aztecs and respectfully celebrate the rivalry that is ending this week.
Unfortunately, we had to cancel the remainder of our wrestling season for this year. We look forward to continuing our wrestling program next year with a new head coach.
