Natick Preschool
Your Weekly Update from Natick Preschool
Principal's Message
Greetings Preschool Parents and Guardians,
I hope you've had a lovely week and have been able to play outside on these sunny, breezy days. The outside time is good for all of us and especially little learners!
Please consider joining our Natick Preschool School Council composed of teachers and parents.
We meet virtually, once per month, typically in the mornings 8am - 8:45am
If you are interested in serving on the school council, please email me at mkinkead@natickps.org.
What is School Council?
The School Council, in serving as representatives of our larger school community, seeks to enrich and enhance opportunities for teaching and learning that result in improved learning outcomes for students. We strive to improve the supports available to teachers, students and their families as we work together to better meet the needs of all our learners.
Warm regards,
MaryBeth
Important Things to Know!
Mandatory NPS Safety Drills
What would you do if there was a skunk in the building? You would hunker down somewhere to avoid the smelly spray! This is the developmentally appropriate explanation (or one similar) that we use with preschoolers as rationale for practicing “shelter in place” or “lockdown” safety procedures.
Each year Natick Public Schools works in concert with the Natick Police and Fire Departments to practice safety protocols including fire drills, lockdown and evacuation procedures. The drills are intended to be brief in order to allow normal school activity to resume as quickly as possible.
Please note, these practice drills are planned in advance and not related to any specific current events. Please do not hesitate to contact me (MaryBeth Kinkead, Preschool Principal) should you have any questions related to practice of safety procedures.
Sneakers
Please remember to send in sneakers (or other supportive shoes) with your child on days that they come to school wearing rain/snow boots. This will help your children to be able to safely participate in gross motor activities during their school day.
Dismissal Name Signs and Routine
Arrival and Dismissal as a Learning Opportunity
Bring your signs with your child’s name on them each day so our dismissal leaders can efficiently notify the teacher of your presence. We occasionally rotate roles so your sign ensures a safe and efficient dismissal every time.
Arrival at school and reuniting at dismissal are excellent opportunities for children to practice prosocial and language skills. We teach children that greetings, farewells, well-wishes and questions mean others are thinking about them and when they do these things it shows others preschoolers are thinking about them. Thank you for assisting us in reinforcing these skills during arrival and dismissal as these times provide authentic opportunities for practice.
Reminder for Parents Who Want to Volunteer--CORI Checks
Reminder If you want to volunteer in schools, you must have a CORI check conducted and you must go into the building with identification (drivers license or passport) to do this. Click here for description of what a CORI check is and does. Without a CORI check, you cannot volunteer in the school. Here is the form to fill out for a CORI. Preschool volunteer opportunities include being a Mystery Reader for the class, presenting a family tradition and supporting special projects.
