Notes from the Principal
Dear Parents,
HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Thanks to our PTSO for a delicious luncheon on Wednesday, complete with festive décor and seasonal charm. Our 8th Grade Band did its thing again Tuesday night, and our first ever Musical Theatre Showcase with WES was a spectacular success! Student Council did a superb job shopping for our friends at Walter Bickett Elementary School across town, and those kids left here Wednesday ALL smiles! Thanks to your support with our annual “Loose Change Drive,” and here are yet more examples of why this school and community are so, so incredible.
As we look to the new year, prepare for the actual installation of our new camera/door lock system. Shortly into January, we’ll transition completely over to the new equipment and utilize new means to access our school. This will lock our external front doors at all times, and office personnel will control all outside access. A minor inconvenience compared to our current easy access, but a worthwhile feature to keep our students safe! This process, coupled with our car rider line establishment of two lines at 3:30pm, leads us to another change: early dismissal requests should occur by 3:15pm at the latest! This will better allow you to pick up your student for appointments and other things, while still providing them schooling as long as practically possible.
We thank you for the holiday blessings, for the seasonal cheer, and for sharing your children with us. From our school to your home, we wish you a most wonderful winter break!
Please note: school is open 8am-2pm on the teacher workdays January 2 and 3, 2020.
Congratulations to this week's Weekly Weddington Wildcats!

Absence/Early Dismissal
Parents, if your child will be leaving school early, please send a note to the homeroom teacher with the dismissal time. Students who leave before or arrive after 12:15 pm will be marked absent for the day. There are no dismissals allowed after 3:30 pm. If you send a note for your student to be in the office at 3:15 pm and you arrive after the 3:15 pm deadline, if your student is not in the office waiting for you the office staff will not call your student out of class. Also, all early dismissal and late arrivals from medical appointments must have a note from the doctor in order to be excused.
When students are absent it is not necessary to call the school. Be sure to send a note to the homeroom teacher stating why the student was not in school. UCPS will notify you through Connect-Ed if your student was
absent.
