The Countless Good
When I'm on morning duty in the commons, I routinely see the same students. I try to say hi to as many as possible, and it has become humorous to me how many respond to my "good morning" by putting their IDs on and giving me a sheepish grin. One frequent passerby is a young man who just started school at CSHS this year. Every time I see him in the hallway, I make a point to say hello, especially since I rarely see him interact with other students. He even sat alone in the cafeteria much of the year. Just before Christmas Break, I was standing with Mr. Quick in the cafeteria when I looked up and realized this same young man was sitting and smiling, surrounded by a table full of our young ladies, who after seeing him sit alone at the table next to them all year picked up and moved over to join him. Now, they sit together every day and almost every time I look over at them, he is smiling.
It's easy to get bogged down in the negative--too many kids in one class period, a tight budget, helicopter parents, kids making poor choices and the like. But, there are countless good things all around us every day at CSHS, like these students who chose to be a friend to someone who needed one. I made a note that day in the cafeteria that if I ever started an education blog, the title would be "The Countless Good" because so much out there about education right now is about what needs to be fixed, not the innumerable wonderful things happening in school communities and classrooms every day. While the likelihood of me starting a blog is slim right now, I still wanted to share this sentiment with you all.
As we coast toward Spring Break, please keep an eye out for all of the good things happening around you here at the Purple School, and share them with your teammates around you and with me, too.
May your week be full of countless good things!

Spring Has Sprung!
As Spring Break approaches, students are feeling spry!
- Be diligent this week (and always) about hall duty, tardies, and IDs. Your visibility makes a difference in student behavior and maintaining our high expectations.
- Please be aware that due to high volumes of referrals and incidents recently, the admin team is working diligently through each issue. We are more behind than we are all accustomed; therefore, the actions may be lagging behind the date it was issued. Having said that, we will also be working diligently to get back into the classrooms for scheduled walk-throughs.
