The Modern Middle East
Spring 2014 Online
You are about to enter a fascinating world you have heard a lot about on the news but actually know little about in reality. Of course, the best is to take six months and travel through those countries, observe and interview people. Short of that, you will have the opportunity to learn the 20th-century history of the states behind the recent turmoil people have called the "Arab Spring." It really helps to put some of these pieces of the puzzle together -- including Turkey and Iran, two very influential but definitely not Arab countries!
In the end, this will be a class to give you a deeper understanding for what you are reading in the papers every day, but also a heart for what God wants to do in this part of the world where he sent his Son two thousand years ago.
Please complete these two tasks now in order to be prepared to start our course next week:
- Download and thoroughly read our course syllabus.
- Introduce yourself to me and the rest of the class in the Introductions Forum.
- Watch the Introduction videos by myself and my co-instructor, Carl Medearis.
Enjoy the ride ... and feel free to contact me at any time with your questions!
