Food Allergy Awareness
There are about 5.9 million kids living with food allergies, 1 in 13 kids under the age of 18 which is about 2 in every classroom. The holiday season from now through the new year poses increased threats to kids trying to manage food allergies. We would like to increase awareness about food allergies by reminding students and parents of the following:
- Food allergies are very serious. It is not a joking matter.
- Reactions can be life threatening
- Preventing exposure is crucial
- Don’t share food, forks, knives, spoons, or straws with friends
- Wash hands after eating. Some people with food allergies can get sick even if they are touched by something that has a tiny bit of food on it.
- If a friend with allergies is sick, tell an adult right away. This will make sure that your friend gets help and gets the medicine they need to feel better.
- Food allergies can make holidays scary. Please remember not to bring anything with nuts into the classroom.

Counseling Office
Website
Please remember to check the Counseling Office website! We are adding new information every day such as upcoming events and college visits, scholarship information and links to helpful websites such as Parchment, SAT and ACT. Also please feel free to let us know if there is something else you would like to see or that would be useful for you or your student. A link to the Counseling Office site can be found by going to the Grand Blanc High School website at http://hs.grandblancschools.org click on “QuickLinks” and then “Counseling Office”.
College Application Process
Seniors are encouraged to continue completing their college applications electronically via the college websites. It is an honor for a staff member to be asked to write a letter of recommendation and they want to do a good job in representing you to the college of your choice. Students must complete a letter of recommendation form and submit that to their counselor and/or teachers. Forms are located in the Counseling Office as well as on the website in the senior documents file. Please request a letter of recommendation well in advance (7-10 days) of the deadline. Thank you!
NCAA/NAIA Registration
Seniors who plan to play Division I or Division II college sports need to apply to the NCAA Clearinghouse online at www.eligibilitycenter.org. Please visit the website or see your counselor with any questions
Scholarships
A list of scholarships is available in the Counseling Office and updated every few weeks. You may also find this information along with links to scholarship search engines on the Counseling website and in the senior documents file under Quick Links. Check out what opportunities are available for getting money for college!
Dual Enrollment
We have now started the dual enrollment process for second semester. College classes will be closing quickly! If your student is interested in this opportunity, please have them contact Mrs. Mol in the Counseling Office as soon as possible. Feel free to call our office at 591-6647 with any questions. Students who are new to dual enrollment should listen to the announcements for a meeting date in the near future to discuss the application process.
Social Media
The Counseling Office uses the Grand Blanc High School Facebook and Twitter pages to post all upcoming events and important information for students and parents. If you haven’t done so yet, “like” Grand Blanc High School on Facebook or follow “grandblancpride” on Twitter for up to the minute information
Senior Information
There is now a senior documents file that has all of the important information that was discussed at the senior meeting this year. This file has important senior dates, college application info, SAT testing information, etc. To access this senior file please visit the high school website at http://hs.grandblancschools.org, click on “Quicklinks” and the senior file is under the student section.
College Acceptance
Has your senior been accepted to college?? Have him or her stop by and let us know! We would like to congratulate them on their hard work and success!
College Visits
College reps have been visiting us on a weekly basis since September. Be sure to take advantage of these visits to our school. This is an excellent opportunity for students to get valuable information about Michigan colleges and ask questions. Remember to check the TV and Window outside the Counseling Office for all upcoming visit information. All students should be signed up for Remind101 for their class specific reminders. The class remind text codes are on the Counseling Website, so be sure to sign up today if you have not already done so!
Credit Recovery
Any students who are behind on credit have an opportunity to catch up through the Credit Recovery program. The class meets in room 635 at West Campus Mondays through Thursdays from 2:30-4:30. Cost is $100 per class equaling ½ credit and students who qualify for free/reduced lunch must pay a $50.00 deposit. Credit Recovery applications are available in the counseling office.

College Board Accounts: 9th – 11th grade
A College Board account is required of all students. If you do not have a College Board account already set up, please do so at www.collegeboard.org . The student needs to be the one to set this up. Do not set up a second account. This account is needed for PSAT9, PSAT10, and SAT review, score viewing, and score sending to colleges. Please keep your login and password somewhere where you can find it as needed. These accounts are sometimes used during class time. If you already set up an account and cannot remember your login and password information, please call College Board at 1-866-756-7346. Staff do not have students information.
