Ed Tech Corner: Timeline
Welcome to the new trimester. The summer trimester is a little bit interesting with the staggered start times of our chiro, acupuncture, massage therapy, nutrition and undergrad/post-bac students but soon everyone will be back on campus.
The library is looking to fill some student library assistant positions. If you are interested, please fill out an application or contact Krista Jacobson for more information.
We have a new archives display: Posture Queens. Did you know that the American Chiropractic Association used to hold beauty/posture contests as a way to promote the profession? I know I didn't. Find more about this piece of history in our Archives Section.
We have also digitized all of the yearbooks in our collection. You can find them on the library's website.
Finally, if you are someone who likes to explore new technology, take the time to learn about creating eye-catching timeline displays in our Ed Tech section.
Student Library Jobs!
We are in the process of hiring student library assistants right now. We offer a relaxed, professional, and quiet environment close to all of your textbooks and not far from your classes. Our shifts can be as short as one hour or as long as a couple of hours a day offering you a convenient opportunity to earn extra money around your classes.
The application is now live. If you are interested in customer service and have some very basic computer skills, please apply for the job. https://nwhealth.applicantpro.com/jobs/555407.html
If you have any questions, you can email Krista Jacobson at kjacobson@nwhealth.edu.
Posture Queens
Could YOU be the next Posture Queen? We have a new exhibition out on posture and posture contests! The first known Posture Queen contest was held by the American Chiropractic Association in 1927. These contests were intended to garner attention for chiropractic and the role of posture in health and appearance. Men had their own division in the ACA contests, but only until 1931. Posture beauty contests were held through the 1920s-40s, spreading to many schools and communities, and eventually became very popular during the '50s and '60s. In 1958, Chiropractic Economics published a short article noting that "Posture contests are BIG business." Most contests seem to have ended by the late 1960s, though Galveston, TX, resurrected their 1930s-era Most Perfect Back contest as the Most Beautiful Back contest in 2012. Read all about the Posture Queens in the journal Chiropractic History, vol. 22, #2, in the bound journal section of the library. Included in the display are some posture-related brochures from our pamphlet collection and a couple of posture competition articles from a 1954 Minneapolis junior high school newsletter.

Yearbooks
Until now....They're online!
Susan Vossberg, our Technical Services Librarian, recently completed a project digitizing the yearbooks we had in our collection. The dates range from 1973 until 2011. There are some gaps as the yearbook wasn't published every year.
If you have a NWHSU yearbook that isn't here and would be willing to allow us to digitize it, please contact Susan at svossberg@nwhealth.ed or email the library at library@nwhealth.edu
Timeline JS
You may be interested to know that you too can create a timeline using the same software she used, Timeline JS. Registration is free and you can check out their site to see other examples. Timeline JS is a sleek, sophisticated approach to presenting material in a unique way.
