Class DOJO Day October 7th!
Rice University/Glasscock School of Continuing Studies
Diane Winborn Elementary would like to thank Rice University/Glasscock School of Continuing Studies and Houston-area funders for the amazing fellowship provided to Tamara Bryan and George Shaughnessy. As a Title I campus with high needs, the fellowship was vital in allowing our two wonderful pre-kindergarten teachers to attend and grow in their craft. We are all ecstatic about the opportunity for George and Tamara to attend Rice’s Classroom Storytelling program. Personally, several of my colleagues and friends have participated in Classroom Storytelling and attest to the amazing growth their students make in their oral expression, vocabulary, and narrative development with implemented strategies. Knowing the need of our littlest DWE Eagles, Mr. Shaughnessy and Ms. Bryan are eager, as am I, to take their instruction to an even higher level. We are excited to see how far our Eagles progress with Classroom Storytelling.
CAMPUS ADVISORY TEAM NOMINATIONS
Our Campus Advisory Team is a committee that meets for four meetings per year starting after school and last about an hour. The CAT serves exclusively in an advisory role to the principal. Topics discussed will be staff development planning, updates on renovation and our Title 1 information to parents such as our Parent/School Compact and Parental Engagement Policy.
We welcome nominations through Friday, September 23rd.

District Volunteer Raptor Initiative
Katy ISD is excited to announce the implementation of the District’s Raptor Volunteer Initiative for the upcoming school year. Beginning October 1, the district will require all volunteers serving on campus during the instructional day to register with the district through its Raptor security system.
Raptor ensures quick and easy volunteer registration allowing individual volunteers to create and manage a personal volunteer profile. In addition, the Raptor Volunteer Initiative will:
- Provide an additional layer of protection for Katy ISD students, staff, volunteers, and campus visitors
- Unite all district volunteers into one Katy ISD volunteer community
- Measure and communicate the positive impact of Katy ISD volunteer organizations
Once registered and approved, individual volunteers can:
- Submit and track hours via their volunteer profile for every Katy ISD campus at which they volunteer
- The system also provides quick and easy submission of individual off-campus volunteer hours
The volunteer registration requirement will extend to all volunteers serving on or off-campus, during or after the instructional day effective January 4.
Join our volunteer community and register today!
