Principal Newsletter
From the Desk of Mrs. Riley
October 23, 2019
Dear Parents,
This week's newsletter is coming to you a day earlier than usual to share some important reminders and information.
- Dismissal tomorrow, Thursday, October 24, will be at 11:45 for Grades K - 8 and 11:30 for our Preschool students due to Parent/Teacher Conferences. THERE WILL BE NO PM CARES. School is closed on Friday, October 25. Enjoy the extended weekend!
- When arriving for conferences, please enter and exit through the Gym doors. Please be mindful of keeping your conference to the scheduled 15 minutes as there are other parents waiting. This will help in keeping the schedule running smoothly.
- If your child forgets to bring a book home, please know that you may not return to the classroom to retrieve that book. Under our new security procedures and in the interest of student privacy, classroom doors will be locked at the end of each day. No student or parent will be permitted to enter the building for the purpose of retrieving a forgotten item. This also teaches organization and responsibility on the part of our students.
- I am pleased to announce that our PIE organization will be purchasing two new refillable water stations, replacing the existing fountains. These stations will be installed over the Christmas holidays on A and C levels. Students will be permitted to refill their personal water containers (no larger than 16 ounces). In the interim, there will be two water coolers available to students during the day on A and C levels for water refills.
- Please look for your child to bring home a yellow envelope today which will contain your Picture Form (one for each child), and a packet of important Auction News from PIE.
- Picture Day will be this coming Monday, October 28, 2019.
- Our Halloween celebration will take place on 10/31. This is a free dress down day, however, only students in Grades Pre K and K are to wear costumes. Students may submit a decorated pumpkin (real or foam) for the school pumpkin contest. Pumpkins may be dropped off in the morning but must go home at the end of the day. Students will participate in various games and activities throughout the day led by our Student Council and a snack will be provided.
Thank you for your constant support and prayers for our school. I encourage you to continue to support our work as we advance our mission to provide a transformative education steeped in academics and faith to our deserving students. There is no greater investment for forming our future saints than a Catholic education!
Please carefully review this week's newsletter for many reminders and updates. We thank you for entrusting your children to us and for the sacrifices you make each day to send your child(ren) to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School.
God’s Peace,
Mrs. Barbara Riley
Principal
SPRING FLING AUCTION 2020 - CALL FOR DONATIONS!
Our largest parent fundraiser of the year, Spring Fling Auction Night, is taking place on Saturday, March 28, 2020.
The Auction is an adult only fun night out with dinner, drinks and a chance to win some fantastic prizes. We’ll have basket raffles, a silent auction and an auctioneer to MC a live auction.
This fundraiser is a big undertaking. We need significant help from the parent, school and parish communities in order to make this a successful, fun event. We're asking all school families to donate either a small gift basket or $30, even if you're unable to attend the Auction, as this fundraiser benefits all OLGC students.
Here’s how you can help:
1. Donate a small gift basket or $30 - (Form here)
2. Buy an ad in the event program book - (Form here)
3. Donate a higher-end basket item ($100+ in value), Silent or Live Auction item ($200+ in value) - (Form here)
4. Attend the event! Tickets go on sale Jan 6 (Form here)
All those who donate will be recognized in our program book. No donation is too big or too small!
Contact a P.I.E. member or email olgcpie@olgc.org with questions. Please also be sure to check out the new "Spring Fling Auction 2020" page of your school website. That page can be found by clicking HERE.
THANK YOU in advance for your time and support! We’re looking forward to a successful 2020 Spring Fling Auction Night!!!
Picture Day
Students may dress in regular clothes for School Picture Day or they may wear their school uniform.
Eighth Grade students can purchase regular school picture packages however, their Yearbook picture will be their graduation cap and gown picture. These special pictures will be taken in January and that will be a different package than the regular school picture package.
OLGC's 2019 Scholastic Book Fair
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings kids the books they want to read. The Book Fair will take place in the Gym from Monday November 4th through Wednesday November 6th. Please see the schedule below to see what day your child(ren) is scheduled to attend. Special instructions for our Pre-K families were sent home today.
Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. Please support our Book Fair and help shape your child's reading habits. All proceeds benefit OLGC School.
This year we are once again offering an online payment method called eWallet. This method will allow your child to purchase books without having to bring money into school. Please click on the link on our Scholastic homepage to set up an account. Cash and checks are also accepted.
To view OLGC's Scholastic Book Fair homepage, please click here HERE.
This year we are also participating in a wonderful program called "All for Books". Students can donate their loose change and help us raise money to donate books to a foundation that the Student Council will be working with. Scholastic is so generous that they will match the amount that we raise so that we can donate even more books! Please keep an eye out for more information on this to come.
Finally, this year parents with students in grades PreK-3 through 3rd grade will be encouraged to come in and shop with their child(ren) during their scheduled shopping time.
We look forward to a fun and successful book fair this year!
