What is OverDrive
OverDrive can help students of all ages read more and improve comprehension. Struggling or reluctant readers, learning-challenged, second language learners, and gifted readers can all benefit from this service.
• Enrich vocabulary and improve comprehension and pronunciation
• Introduce students to books above their reading level
• Teach critical listening
• Help busy kids find time to read
How it Works
To use OverDrive, students install free software on their computers or mobile devices, browse the secure website of more than 1,000 titles, check out their selections with their school ID number, then download to their computer or mobile device. The OverDrive app for mobile devices is available free from app stores. Titles can easily transfer to supported mobile devices (Apple and Android); and also to eBook Readers like the Sony Reader, Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble Nook.
Whether a student’s interest lies in picture books, chapter books, or non fiction titles, they can find it all in the digital collection through OverDrive at https://friscoisd.lib.overdrive.com.
In order to help us promote OverDrive during the month of February, OverDrive has donated a Kindle eReader. FISD librarians will raffle it to a lucky FISD student who checks out an OverDrive book during the month of February. Each checkout during the month counts as an entry in the raffle
