Happy Easter!
The time is here. Yep, the SBA is upon us and the kids are ready. Now comes the easy part, taking the test. I remember talking to Mr. VanDeWege on the phone last year as I was preparing to come up for a visit. He told me he was nervous about the SBA, but not about the kids being ready. He was nervous because so many kids were sick. Things are looking better this year, (knock on wood) we don’t have a big flu bug running around. We are ready to have make up sessions if needed, but we are hoping everyone is healthy, rested, well fed, and ready to go on April 2-4 and April 9 (for 4th grade Science.)
There is a KPBSD Board meeting on April 1st. This meeting is a pivotal session in the discussion about the configuration of the Soldotna Area Schools. As I mentioned in an earlier newsletter, the Board will have the opportunity to vote on changing the configuration from two high schools to one 10-12 grade high school. There are two options for the middle school age students that will be reviewed as well: Two 7-9 grade junior high schools, or one 7-8 grade middle school and on “ninth grade house.” For more information go to: http://www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/
If you are in near the school this weekend you will likely see lots of cars. On Saturday, our school will be the site for the Kasilof Easter Egg hunt. I am sure lots of bunnies will be around all morning, but the “egg picker-uppers” will start working at 1:00. From what I understand, there will be over 3000 eggs including eggs with prizes. It should be a fun time for all. Just as that festival is picking up, our friends from Kasilof Community Church will be setting up for the Easter Service. This event will be in the gym with services beginning at 11:00. There is a potluck before the service. Contact information for either event is : The Kasilof Mercantile and Rocky's Cafe http://www.kasilofmercantile.com/rockys%20cafe.htm, and "Easter Service," sponsored by Kasilof Community Church http://kasilofchurch.weebly.com/.
With summer just around the corner (even with snow still on the ground) you may be thinking about soccer for your kids. The Kenai Peninsula Boys and Girls Club is offering outdoor soccer again this year. There are several age groups from 4-5 year olds to high school age. If 10 or more Kasilof area kids sign up there will be an Tustumena Team. The registration deadline is April 26th , practices start the week of June 10th. For fee and schedule information contact: Kelly Reilly, Athletic Director- 283-3318
We just finished our spring picture day but it is not too late to order a yearbook. We can take yearbook orders up to April 26th.
I hope all is well in your home. Happy Easter!
