Principal's Message
Welcome back parents to our second semester! After a much needed holiday rest, our students and faculty are in full swing again as we prepare for the writing portion of the upcoming Florida Standards Assessments (FSA). We will be administering the paper-based Writing portion of the ELA assessments to grades 4-7 on March 1, 2016 and the computer-based Writing portion to grades 8-10 on March 9, 2016. Our English department is working with students to make sure they have had practice with the appropriate paper-based or computer-based items. Parents may assist students for the assessment by reviewing information found at the link that follows.
FSUS Accreditation
February has brought FSUS' accreditation review. We welcomed an accreditation team from AdvaneED to our campus to discuss our goals for continuous improvement. Both internal and external reviews occured as part of the accreditation process. During this time students, faculty, parents and administration discussed goals for FSUS and the school's progress towards program improvements. The accreditation process allows us to compare our performance with established educational standards. We are appreciative of the many members of our FSUS community who have contributed to this in depth review! We look forward to further collaboration as we seek to continuously improve our school.
Pass the Class
The sixth and seventh grade math teachers have collaborated to help support our students struggling in math. They have started a program called “Pass the Class”. Sessions are held in the morning, during lunch, and in the afternoons (calendars are given to the students). During these sessions, students are given the opportunity to improve grades on missed assignments, tests or quizzes. Mrs. Phillips is providing guidance to help students improve. Contact Ms. Phillips (lgphillips@admin.fsu.edu) for February's schedule of sessions, and help support the efforts of our math department by encouraging our sixth and seventh grade students to take advantage of this opportunity!
STEAM Festival
The first FSUS K-12 STEAM Festival is scheduled for February 19, 2016. The STEAM planning committee is working hard to create a fun, interactive event for FSUS students. Students will enjoy interactive presentations throughout the day on science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Representatives from FSU, FAMU, the Challenger Museum as well as many others will be on campus to present. Check out our STEAM day shout out on the iDigbio website!
Student Schedules 2016-2017
Guidance counselors will soon be in grade level meetings with students to discuss schedules for next school year. Students will receive paperwork to bring home to parents for review and signature. Grade level meetings with students will begin the last week of February with follow up registration during the first two weeks of March. Counselors will visit classrooms to assist students as they enter requests. Thank you for assisting this process by reviewing and discussing the information sent home with your student.
