From The Principal's Desk
Greetings North Wales Families,
This week we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week and National Nurses Week! Last Monday was Principal Appreciation Day, and I am truly honored to be the principal of North Wales Elementary School. It brings me joy to walk into school and see 462 smiling faces and 60 dynamic team members that educate and support our learning community.
We have a great group of amazing individuals that I have the honor of working with on a daily basis! We celebrate them this week.
Please check out our latest NWES PBIS Parent Newsletter April 2023
We have a Home & School Meeting this Tuesday at 7pm. Please join us in person or virtually.
I am looking forward to another great week!
Warmly,
Ms. Dana Kenney
Principal

All North Penn community members are invited to bid in the online auction and help the Foundation raise money to provide innovative educational experiences for over 13,000 students in the district. All funds raised through this auction will return to NPSD classrooms through innovative grants and supplemental programs.
The auction will open May 4 at 12:00 AM and will remain open for bidding until May 9, 9:00 PM. To bid, please visit npef.afrogs.org.
Virtual Enrichment Summer Opportunity
To promote continuous learning over the summer, NPSD will be offering a summer enrichment opportunity for all elementary students who have completed grades K-6 in the 2022-2023 school year. This free virtual program is designed to be completed asynchronously, with the engagement of families. Our goal is to provide independent, engaging activities throughout the summer that are the perfect blend of academics and fun in order to best support continued growth for our students.
The program will offer four weeks of content starting on Monday July 3rd. New content will be posted every Monday. Registration will be required, and a link will be posted for families by May 15th to register their child. All information will also be posted to the NPSD website, and promoted through social media outlets. While the information is not posted yet, we want you to be able to promote it while sharing summer ideas and talking to your families. Please remember, this is different from SPARK, which is our in-person summer remediation program, and students must be invited to participate in that program.
Once the program begins, students will have access to four weeks of themed choice menus with activities that are aligned to grade level standards in ELA and Math, and will also incorporate movement, creativity, and more! Students will also have the opportunity to work through their personalized learning pathway on iReady for math and Freckle for ELA.

Cultural Highlights For The Week
Asian American and Pacific Islander Month
Who is a Pacific Islander?
The “Pacific Islands” is how we are described because of our geographic location, “Islands,
geographically located in the Pacific Ocean”.
When you talk about the Pacific Islands, you are talking about different Island Nations.
- Different heads of countries, from kings to presidents, etc. Even different forms of
government.
- Some are independent countries, yet some are under the rule of a foreign power.
- Each Island Nation has their own language.
- There is not one language that is used or understood by all Pacific Islanders.
- There are some similarities but each island nation has it’s own unique characteristics.
Greetings
From the Islands of Fiji “Bula Vinaka”
• From the Islands of Samoa “Talofa Lava”
• From the Kingdom of Tonga “Malo e Lelei”
• From Chamorro “Hafa Adai”
• From Tahiti “Ia Orana”
• From Niue “Fakalofa atu”
• From NZ Maoris “Tena Koe”
• From Hawaii “Aloha”
Smart Watch/ Cell Phone Reminder
We have seen a growing number of students using electronic devices and sending/receiving text messages throughout the day, which has disrupted the learning environment. Please note, cell phones should be in silent mode or turned off and stored in bookbags throughout the day. Smartwatches should not be used to make calls, send messages, or take photos/videos during the school day. Also, note the school is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal electronic devices. Our school team will be reminding our students of these expectations regarding personal devices.
We thank all of our families for their continued support and cooperation in limiting disruptions to the classroom.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
