Strategic Plan Process

We’ve started the process of sorting the feedback we received form the students, employees and stakeholders. With all of the data collected, we hope to create 2 or 3 strategies from each of the 6 sub-pillar/areas. Based on the perception data from the 130 survey responses, the ratings of the 6 areas are as follows:

Capital Projections

CMS

The contractors are still working on phase one. The core slab arrived earlier this month and progress has heated up. In addition to laying the core slab, the contractors are working on plumbing, conduit work, as well as concrete and steel placement. Phase one is still on track to be completed this fall. Once the first phase is completed and the programs are moved in from the round building, then the next phase will begin which is the demolition of the round and FACS buildings.

CHS Parking Lot

We recently began planning with an architect and performing soil tests for a parking lot at CHS behind the softball field. This is part of the 2022-2023 approved capital plan and is due to the current student parking lot being at capacity at the high school. This project will go out for bid in the coming weeks. If bids return within budget and soil samples are adequate, this project could start early this summer.

CCPS

Everything is still on schedule and perhaps a little ahead of schedule with the CCPS project. Most of the work has shifted to the inside of the two new buildings as well as the inner renovations taking place in the current facility.

Both East and West Elementary schools will conduct their annual orientation for rising second grade students on May 8th. Both schools will have a parent meeting that same night in which Mrs. Shaddix and I will provide updates on the plan and timeline for the transition of second grade to CCPS. Pay attention to parent newsletters form CCPS, East and West for more information on exact times and locations.

Coffee with the Superintendent

Through the strategic plan process we learned that we can do a better job of informing and communicating with parents and community members the various aspects of our school system and schools. Last week we piloted “Coffee with Mr. Kallhoff”, which was an hour and a half discussion on assessments, state standards, transportation, construction, human resources, and finances. We will continue this next year with four sessions throughout the year starting in late July. Pay close attention to social media and newsletters for announcements on those dates, times and locations.

Mr. Wiggins' Retirement

Last week Mr. Wiggins announced his retirement. He has served as principal at East Elementary for the past 17 years. We wish him nothing but the best of luck in retirement and the next chapter of his life. The principal position is advertised on both the school system website and state website. We will take applications for the next month and begin the interview process in early May. Ideally, the School Board will consider a recommendation for the principal position at East Elementary in late May or early June.

Spring Break

Next week is spring break. We hope all of our students, employees and families enjoy a week-long break from school. Please keep in mind, when we return on April 3rd, we will only have 7 weeks of school left which includes important state testing. We hope all Bearcats have a fun but safe and responsible spring break.
