Principal's Message
What a term it has been! Congratulations to everyone – staff, students and our community – on their resilience and drive to keep focused on our learning. We have achieved so much against so many challenges. I know you will all have a well deserved holiday!
As the term ends we have some changes to staffing in our school. Mrs Krivoshev and Mrs Less are both taking up positions at other schools for the remainder of the year. Ms Atkins and Mr Vourantonis are finishing their engagements with us at the end of this term and we thank them for their additional support during the learning from home and return to face to face learning period. We also farewell Ms Hanemann and thank her for the great work with our students in the school gardens.
Next term we welcome Mr Tupovic who will be teaching 6K, and Ms Ahmad and Ms Alameddine who will be providing teacher release to support our professional development program.
Thank you to everyone for your support and cooperation with our morning pick up and afternoon drop off arrangements. From next term we are moving to a 3pm finish which means a change to afternoon pick up arrangements. A letter was sent home earlier this week with information and is also included in this newsletter. Parents and carers are asked to follow signage and staff instructions so that we can maintain a safe environment for all.
We had a great response to our uniform offer this term. I look forward to seeing all our students back in full school uniform from the beginning of next term. Our student leaders have been discussing ideas to promote pride in our school uniform and will be sharing these with students next term.
Stay safe over the holiday period and see you when we return on Tuesday 21 July 2020.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Ian Tapuska
Principal
Have you seen these notes and when are they due?
From the Deputy Principals - Mrs Alfaro and Mrs Vajdevski
We made it! Term 2 has come to an end. It has been an extremely challenging term for everyone.
Semester One Reports and Parent-Teacher Learning Conferences
Semester one reports will be sent home on Friday 3 July. Please take the time to discuss this report with your child and praise their efforts.
Our parent teacher learning conferences will be conducted online through Zoom in Term 3 Week 2 from Monday 27 July to Friday 31 July 2020. Bookings commenced on Monday 29 June and will close on Tuesday in Week 1. A reminder letter with each class teachers Zoom link, meeting ID and password will be sent home by Friday week 1.
Please download Zoom on a device such as a laptop, mobile, iPad or computer. Instructions will be sent home early in Term 3.
Attendance
Just a reminder that every minute in school counts! Below is a table that highlights how much learning your child is missing if they are late or absent from school on a regular basis. Set good habits early which will result in success for your child.
ICAS
This year we have decided to not participate in the ICAS competitions due to the increasing costs with these assessments. Many families have experienced uncertainty due to recent events with COVID -19 and we feel that these additional costs would add further strain on many families. We will re-evaluate the ICAS competitions in 2021 and the costs associated.
Staying safe near schools
In recent weeks we have noticed that students are not being safe around the school or near crossings.
Parents and carers always hold your children’s hands when walking on the footpath, in the car park and when crossing the road until they are at least 8 years old.
When your children are between 8 and 10 years old, supervise them very closely when they are near traffic and crossing the road. When you decide to let your children over 10 years old walk to and from school by themselves, plan the journey together. Practise being a safe pedestrian by:
■ keeping to the left of the footpath
■ being aware of vehicles coming in and out of driveways
■ not being distracted by mobile devices or by other people
■ using a safe, alternative way home in wet weather
■ showing respect to other pedestrians.
STOP! one step back from the kerb.
LOOK! continuously look both ways.
LISTEN! for the sounds of approaching traffic.
THINK! is it safe to cross?
Parents and carers just a reminder you are responsible for your child's safety when they are travelling to and from school.

Early Stage 1 News - Mrs Pritchard
What’s been happening in Kindergarten?
This is the last week of Term 2. It is hard to believe that our Kindergarten students have completed Semester 1 of the school year.
Student have been working hard in their classrooms with their peers and teachers. From reading simple texts, writing using the correct pencil grip and learning to count to 30.
I had the pleasure to observe the students playing sporting games and activities last week. I have added some photos of the students working as a team and developing their sporting skills.
Term 3 starts on Tuesday 21 July 2020. Enjoy the 2 week holidays and we will see you soon for the start of another wonderful term of Kindergarten

Assistant Principal – Early Stage 1
COVID-19 - Good Hygiene
The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is the same way you would protect yourself from catching flu or other respiratory illnesses. Remember there are simple steps to help stop the spread and good hygiene is in your hands. We have some pictures below to help stay safe during this time.
From the classroom - KG and Miss Raymundo
In KG we have been learning how to represent number in different ways. We love building our fine motor skills whilst counting different objects. We are using different items to show what different numbers look like.
We have also been learning about data. We all asked a question that we want to find the answer to. Each day we collect data from our friends and talk about what we notice. Stage 1 News - Ms Vejzovic
This term Year 1 have been investigating external features of living things, where living things live and how they change over time.
Our major investigation focused on improving our local environment to encourage living things to thrive. Year 1 have made bird feeders. Have a look at our creations.
This term Year 2 have been learning about the connectedness between humans, plants and animals. We have been investigating how plants and animals are used to satisfy our needs for food and fibre.
Students’ have been developing an understanding of how living things and their environment play a central role in the support for and survival of humans.
We are proud of all the achievements of the stage one students. Please take this holiday break to relax and recharge for another exciting term of learning.

3D have been studying and appreciating the artworks of Andy Warhol in Visual Arts. We have learnt that Andy Warhol was famous for pop art. He lived and worked in New York from the 1950s - 1980s. Warhol's art consisted of hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film and music.
At art school, Andy experimented with a simple printmaking technique using ink and paper. We used this technique to create a drawing of our own Andy Warhol cat using permanent markers and water colour paints.
Andy Warhol enjoyed print making as well as sculpturing. We used this technique to create our Campbell's Soup cans. We also had to think of our own interesting soup flavours names such as, hot dog soup, pizza soup, donut soup, etc.
Andy would ask his friends to suggest their favourite colours for his flower paintings. For his Flowers series he asked them to tell him their favourite colours. 3D did the same and we asked our classmates to choose the colours for our own Flower Series artworks.
Gardening with Miss Hanemann
As of the end of this term, the program will be changing and volunteers will be taking care of the garden.
Farewell friends, it has been fantastic (for us all)! Keep enjoying the space and helping each-other - as well as the plants - to grow!
:)
Best wishes,
Miss Hanemann

Stage 3 News - Mrs Kirkness
The holidays have arrived very quickly and I would like to acknowledge the dedication by students and class teachers to ensure a smooth transition back to classroom and school routines.
Year 6 students have begun receiving letters of offers from their elected high schools. Please complete and return these forms as soon as possible to the relevant high school. The Year 6 2020 T-Shirts displaying the names of all students and their teachers have been ordered and should arrive shortly after Term 3 commences.
Stage 3 students have been excited about the July holidays and the ability to have greater opportunities to use their digital devices including playing PlayStation games, using streaming services or accessing social media platforms. I would like to take this opportunity to remind students and their families that unfortunately, dangers exist online, and it is important to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience when using the Internet. There are websites to support parents in providing safe and secure use of the internet. For example, the E-Safety government website. https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/skills-advice/online-safety-basics
I would also like to provide a friendly reminder to make sure students are prepared for learning when they return for Term 3. This may require purchasing new learning materials such as pens, pencils and glue sticks.
Enjoy the holidays and we look forward to your return in Term 3.
Mrs Diana Kirkness
Assistant Principal Stage 3
From the classroom - 5R and Miss Rebeiro
Community Language - Arabic and Hindi
Stay safe!

The 2020 Premier's Reading Challenge rules has been updated to help support students to participate in and complete the Challenge whilst their access to books at school and local libraries may be restricted. Students on all Challenge levels are able to read 10 choice books - an increase from five. It’s packed full of exciting books from best-selling authors, popular titles and series that kids love, as well as products and books that make perfect gifts for younger siblings who may not be at school yet.
Thank you to everyone who supported our Term 2 edition of book club by purchasing books. We received approximately $350 in rewards which will be used to purchase some more popular books for the school Library.
There will be no Book Club Edition for Term 3 as we will have our first ever Virtual Book Fair running online from 3-8-19 to 7-8-19.

Library Book Suggestion Box
By popular demand the Book Suggestion Box is back in the Library near the Circulation Desk. Students can fill in the Book Suggestion Paper Slip with the titles of a book they would like the school to purchase for the library. Popular suggestions will be purchased so that students can borrow them and read at home.
Library Borrowing
Borrowing books from the school library have commenced for 2020. Students are encouraged to bring their library bag on their class library day. Students in Kindergarten can borrow 1 book per week. Students in Year 1 or Year 2 can borrow up to 2 books per week and students in Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 or Year 6 can borrow up to 3 books per week.
Listening to children read will make a difference to their reading journey. It is the happiness and love of sharing a good book on a nightly basis that sets the foundation for their reading success. Parents and carers who have any questions / queries on how they can help their child with reading at home can see their class teacher or Mr D’Cruz in the school library.
Technology News: Stage 2 with Ozobots
Year 3 and Year 4 students have been busy writing algorithms (a sequence of steps and decisions) to help program Ozobots to complete tasks. They have been creating specific colour patterns which the Ozobots can interpret and follow. These lessons are helping students to develop their skills in visual programming.
