5th Grade PALs head to leadership conference

We are excited to announce that our 5th grade PALs will be heading to Kean University in March for the annual Elementary Leadership Conference. This experience is part of the Diversity Council on Global Education and Citizenship of KEAN University, which Brookside has partnered with over the years to bring our students important resources for diversity and inclusive learning environments for all students.

The purpose of this trip is to add to the cultural and educational experiences of our students here at Brookside. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to meet with students from surrounding towns and discuss diversity within our community and school.

Week of Kindness

Here are some photos from our wonderful week at Brookside celebrating The Great Kindness Challenge. Students had so much fun completing all their acts of kindness and helping to create a culture of kindness and compassion in our community and beyond!

Which is it ... cold or flu?

The common cold and seasonal flu are often mistaken for one another because early symptoms of both illnesses can be similar. Both are respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. Severity of symptoms varies from one person to another, but in most cases, flu is much more serious and develops abruptly compared to colds. Flu symptoms may include fever or feeling feverish/chills, dry cough, sore throat, muscle or body aches, stomach ache and/or cramps, headaches, and fatigue. Cold symptoms are usually milder than the symptoms of flu, and a cold usually isn’t accompanied by a fever. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose, and colds generally do not result in serious health problems.
