Guidance & Counseling Department
Colby Glass Elementary School October 2023
What a GREAT start to the 2023-2024 school year!
We are so happy to be looking back at a great start to the year so far! We kicked off back to school with the "Tears and Cheers" event with our AMAZING PTA, where parents got together to mingle, enjoy refreshments, and receive information on separation anxiety with the promise that counselors were going to drop off an "inspirational note" to their child.
This year so far we have taught our "Howdy Lesson," "Lockdown Drill Lesson" related to Personal Health and Safety. We look forward to continuing family engagement events, in class guidance lessons, and our individual and small group sessions with our students.

Family Engagement: Goodies with Grands!
Special thank you to our PTA President, Sheila Lopez, our amazing PTA parents, and our wonderful librarian, Dr. Perfecto for helping make this event successful. Thank you grandparents for providing love and support, so we appreciate all the grandparents of our Lil' Huskies!
Counselor Connections!
We have loved coming into classrooms to teach our Lil' Huskies! Some things students have learned are: the role of a counselor, breathing, mindfulness, emotions, safety and managing our emotions during lockdown drills, as well as decision making.

Loving our Bodies by Eating Healthy...
As we focus on healthy bodies for the month of October, please consider reading books with your child about making healthy choices, or staying drug free. Below is a video link to the book "My Magical Foods" by Becky Cummings. My Magical Foods teaches children how fruits and vegetables come naturally from the Earth, which make them some of the best food on the planet. It also shows super strong animals like the gorilla and giraffe that eat plant based. It also shares ideas that motivate children to pick healthy snacks and meals.

Relaxation Time...
Calming visuals offers another avenue for reducing stress. When we are looking at waterfalls around the world or fish swimming through the ocean, we are giving our brains a much needed "mental vacation." Whether it is for pure enjoyment or to relieve anxiety, YouTube has proven itself as a great hub. Visuals serve as a distraction while also making you feel at ease at the same time. Browse through the following blissful videos and visualize your how you can deal with challenges calmly and with confidence.
Threads
Northside Threads is a clothing closet that is housed at the Northside Family Engagement Center which is a State and Federal Program. It exists to support Northside families and provide clothing to students enrolled in Northside schools. Currently they are only taking appointments. Please email or call either counselor and we can make you a referral. You will then be able to make an appointment.
