- Red blood cells
- make up approximately 45% of blood
- No nucleus
- Contain hemoglobin:binds to oxygen and carbon dioxide for transfer of gases
Platelets
- Cell fragments
- Assist in blood clotting to prevent blood loss
Leukocytes
- White blood cells
- Only blood cell containing a nucleus
- Fight against disease and foreign substances
