The Buckeye Blast
Buckeye Elementary School Newsletter - Winter 21/Spring 22
It’s that Time of Year
Another winter is almost over and spring is right around the corner which means we might have 60 degrees and rain showers one day and a few inches of snow the next! Students need to continue to dress for the weather, as there will still be days close to freezing in our future. Please be aware, if the wind chill is above 20 degrees students will go outside for recess.
Thank you Buckeye Families

2nd Annual Build Your Own Instrument Project
During the full month of February, Miss Leska’s 5th grade general music students were given an opportunity to create their own musical instruments out of household and classroom materials. This project was based on their knowledge of tone (quality of sound) in different instruments, and families. From sketches to presentations, hard work and creativity was brought to life. Some of the students combined two or three different instrument types too!
6th Grade Bracket Challenge
Just before Winter Break Mr. Adam’s and Mrs. King’s Language Arts classes held a bracket challenge. Students competed in pairs in one of two brackets - Natural Disasters or Inventions. Partners worked together to develop a 1 minute and 30 second oral argument to prove that their natural disaster was the worst natural disaster known to man or the best invention known to man. They worked to develop a 45 second oral counterargument against their opponent’s topic. Classmates scored each argument and counterargument. Then all scores were tallied. The highest scoring pairs in each round moved forward in the bracket. A championship round in each bracket was held. The winners from each class period are as follows:

Portrait of a Buck
Each month, Buckeye Elementary students are encouraged to focus on one element from the Buckeye Local School District’s Portrait Of A Buck program. In February, students worked on Perseverance, by never giving up, having an I Can attitude/approach to challenges, and being determined. Congratulations to Miles King for being named the BPS February Student of the Month and Kendall Cash for being named the BIS February Student of the Month!
