Principal's Message
Hello Manning Parents,
I hope you had a great three-day weekend and enjoyed the sunshine with family and friends! We are in full swing at Manning and our students continue to impress us with their great work ethics and attitudes!
Today at 5 pm, we have our first Parent Partnership meeting in the LMC at Manning. We hope you can join us. Parent Partnership is Manning's version of Accountability.
Our students are completing their ELA MAP testing this week, Wednesday through Friday.
Have a great week and thanks for your support!
Mike Collins, Principal
Clarification on the changes to the 2022/23 Jeffco District Calendar
Manning School of Academics & Arts is not a Charter school, governed by a separate board, but an Option school which is still run and managed by the district. As a district school we must adhere to these changes. However, only the additional 2-hour delay days apply to us because we are a freestanding middle school, not an elementary or K-8 school.
Changes to the 2022-23 District Calendar
"As a result of the negotiations between the district and our teacher association, there will be additional non-student contact days (not for middle or high schools) and 3, 2-hour delayed start days for students. Educators will use these planning days to work on tasks relevant to their positions that benefit student learning."
The District Calendars are updated.
2-Hour Delay for Teacher Time PK-12 (all district-managed schools):
Thursday, October 27
Thursday, February 2
Thursday, May 4
For specific protocols around 2-hour delays, please see the inclement weather delay information; the same protocols will be followed. Manning's 2- hour delay schedule

What is Weekly Achievement?
Weekly Achievement is an opportunity for any student that has a "F" in a class to repair their grade. Achievement is a requirement at Manning. Parents cannot call in to excuse their student from Achievement time. If a student does not attend their required Achievement time, they will be required to attend the next scheduled Detention (Thursdays 3:30-4:15) and next scheduled Achievement time.
Please review the Manning Achievement Time document to familiarize yourself with the process.
Monday, September 12th will be the first official Achievement week, and an email will be sent on this day if your student has a D or F in a class.
We suggest checking your student(s) grades in Campus Parent Portal frequently, so you and your student(s) can discuss options before achievement occurs.
Jeffco Athletic/Activity Pass
The Jeffco Activity Pass cost is $60.00 and it includes entry to all REGULAR season high school sporting events at all of our Jeffco Facilities (stadiums & home school sites).
Playoff Events are NOT included. Please contact Jade Zentz at Jade.Zentz@Jeffco.k12.co.us to pay and get your pass.

NASA HUNCH to pilot at Manning!
We are excited and honored to announce (many of you have heard) that the Manning School of the Academics and Arts has been selected to pilot the NASA HUNCH program to middle school students. This is a program that has been operating in high schools, including several in Jeffco, for two decades. Our STEAM 3 students will be working for NASA on selected projects to design and create new products that have been requested by NASA engineers and astronauts. Our teams will compete with their designed products at the high school level, and if selected could have their products sent to the International Space Station or the new lunar base that will be part of the Artemis program.
Students who complete this will be able to carry it with them to their college applications and beyond.
We will make arrangements to showcase the student’s work in the spring semester.
If you would like to learn more about the program, visit https://nasahunch.com/ or contact Ms. Maud or Ms. Yocum.
Parent Conferences coming in October

PTA Happenings
UPCOMING EVENTS
Halloween Dance & Chili Cookoff | Our Fall Fest team has been working feverishly to plan an amazing Chili Cook-Off and Silent Auction, so be sure your calendar is blocked for Friday night, October 28th. We’ll have chili! We’ll have prizes! We’ll have fun! We WON’T have our middle schoolers! While we’re getting our Fall Fest on at the Applewood Golf Course, they will be doing the monster mash at the school during their Halloween Dance. More details to come, but for now save the date and send a note to manningmiddlepta@gmail.com if you would like to help make these events a success.
Reflections | Do you have a super artsy kid who has been waiting for an opportunity to Show Their Voice? This area art competition offers students the opportunity to be as creative as they want in any of these 7 categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. Entries will be judged at Manning and winners will move onto the JeffCo competition. Love the idea, but not sure where to start? Learn more here.
SHOUT OUTS
Thank you to the many families who came out to support Manning at last week’s Restaurant Nights. We’re still waiting on the final numbers, but Abrusci’s was raving about all the support!
ENGAGE WITH US
PTA Meeting | We hope you can join us for the first PTA Meeting of the 2022-23 school year September 15 at 8:30AM in the library. This is your opportunity to join the conversation on how we plan to re-emerge stronger than ever with several programs and events that we haven’t seen in a couple years.
Join The PTA | Please sign up for your PTA membership today! The PTA is integral in supporting our kids, teachers and staff. Membership is only $10 for the year and gives you the opportunity to vote. The more voices we have, the stronger our school is!
Volunteer Opportunities | Statistics show that youth do better in school when they have parents who are involved. That involvement looks different from person-to-person, so let us know what works for you here. With several programs and events returning this year, we will need all the hands we can get.
Free Money for Manning | Did you remember to sign up to earn free money for our school? It’s quick and easy. Be sure to link your King Sooper's rewards to The Manning School PTA, and Amazon Smile account to Manning PTA!
Need more Manning? Follow us at our Facebook Group or ManningPTA for the latest and greatest.
Sources of Strength Peer Leader Training is Coming
Are you interested in being a Peer Leader? Contact Kari Gray for more information! Be on the lookout for a participation permission slip for parents/guardians if you participated, or were nominated last year. Participation will be limited to 30 students.

Memo from Jeffco’s Health Services Team
We will no longer be posting school-level COVID-19 case numbers and we encourage parents and staff to refer to the CDC's COVID-19 Community Level tool to help determine personal prevention measures for themselves and their family. Should the CDC COVID-19 Community Level be raised to level RED, Jeffco Public Schools will continue to work with Jefferson County Public Health and CDPHE regarding any potential updates to our protocols and guidelines.
Positive Test = Isolate at home for 5 days; may return to school days 6-10 with masking strongly recommended.
Return to school only if fever free for 24 hours without taking fever-reducing medication, and if symptoms are improving.
