Art with Mrs. Bailey

This past Monday the school celebrated International Dot Day. A day focused on collaboration, creation, and courage! Each student created a “dot” using a monochromatic (1 color) color scheme. These dots were then assembled into a school wide mural! The mural is on display now between fourth and fifth grade on the main hallway! Please take a minute the next time you’re at Rasor to admire our students fabulous work! Thanks to everyone at Rasor for supporting this amazing day!

News from Nurse Casanova

August is National Immunization Awareness Month. Although getting your immunizations is very important, it is not the main form of infection control with various disease around the country such as mumps, measles and pertussis. So for comprehensive respiratory infection prevention, it is most important to teach your children and your loved ones about the T Zone! Please remember the importance of Henry’s 4th Principle of Hand Awareness and do not touch the T ZONE! Have a fabulous week!

Student Success Week

Below are the theme's for each day of the week, please take some time to discuss with your child the theme of the day. We are also encouraging students to wear Rasor spirit wear or college shirts during the week of the 22nd - 26th.

Day One- What is success? The morning announcement will include a definition of success, ways to identify it, and reasons why it often looks different for every person.

Day Two- Share Success: Share a time when you were successful.

Day Three- Setting Goals: The morning’s announcement will include the definition of goal, why people set goals, and what steps can be taken to make sure goals are met. Teachers and students will be encouraged to participate in a short, whole class discussion about goals they would like to accomplish this school year.

Day Four- Steps to achieving a goal: The morning speaker will discuss the goal they set for the year, and the steps they’re going take to make sure that particular goal is met. Students and teachers will be encouraged to discuss the plan they have to meet the goals they set the day before.

Day Five- Future Friday:The morning announcement will focus on future goals and the steps needed to achieve them. Teachers can use the time after the announcements to talk with their students about long term goals.

Plano Cardboard Challenge

Rasor Elementary will be hosting #PlanoCC, the first Plano cardboard challenge, on October 11, 2014 from 9am-12pm. This is a day where campuses and communities in Plano are invited to participate in a global day of collaborative creation and play. They are estimating that nearly 150,000 people will participate this year and WE, Rasor Elementary and Plano, are going to be among them! Participants will be creating a cardboard community as well as innovative designs to help solve problems that communities face. To find out more about the event visit www.tinyurl.com/planocc for more information about the event and how it all got started.

Watch D.O.G.S.

WATCH D.O.G.S., a K-12 program, invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one full day at their child’s/student’s school during the school year. Individuals sign up at a ‘Launch Event’ such as a “Dads and Kids Pizza Night” or “Donuts with Dad” or in the office at any time throughout the school year. The program is overseen by a “Top Dog” volunteer who partners with the school administrator to coordinate scheduling and identify opportunities for WatchDOGS to provide assistance at the school. WatchDOGS volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling.

WATCH D.O.G.S. kick-off will be Thursday, Sept. 25th at 6:00. Hope to see you there!
