It is through the generosity and support of our partners and friends in the community that the CCAC is able to do our important work and share in the successes and achievements of the students and residents of Jackson County. Your donations continue to provide support to Jackson’s most at risk students as they strive toward their post-secondary goals.

For the upcoming school year, we will keep our advising to student ratio low, gauge trends within each individual school district, focus on skilled trades and traditional 2-4 year degree programs, and enhance services to adults returning to work.

Your end of the year donation will directly support the Center and each of these programs. We ask that you continue your commitment to local students by making a generous gift to the CCAC today.

Governor Whitmer's Challenge to Michigan

The College & Career Access Center is eager to lead the 2020-21 FAFSA charge in Jackson's 13 Connected Community Schools, accepting “The Governor’s FAFSA Challenge” for Michigan high schools. Earlier this month, Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued a challenge to every high school in the state to increase FAFSA completion rates to 75% for the graduating class of 2020. As a state, Michigan’s class of 2019 FAFSA completion rate was 55.9 percent. That rate was down approximately 1% from 2018 (56.8). The initiative, which will give quite a boost to the Michigan College Access Network's (MCAN) annual College Cash Campaign, offers incentives to schools in our state through tributes, social media recognition, and many awards.

MCAN encourages students to finish applying for colleges, complete the FAFSA and apply for scholarships during the period between October and March 1, the priority deadline for the FAFSA.

In December, the CCAC launched its new campaign, The College & Career Access Center Quarterly Business Highlight. Each quarter, the CCAC will highlight a local business that is providing a unique and valuable service to the Jackson area. This quarter, The CCAC recognized a family business that is taking Jackson by storm. Robert and Yvette Wilkie own and operate RJ’s Heavenly Delights Bakery. The Wilkies' 11-year old daughter, Jaylah, actually inspired the bakery when she requested a Barbie cake for her 3rd birthday. Yvette had just lost her infant son and credits that cake with the beginning of overcoming her grief. She began taking classes and eventually moved to Chicago to study at Wilton School. In 2014, Yvette opened RJ’s. The business grew rapidly and Robert shifted soon careers to become her business partner.

Their family friendly bakery offers vibrant decor and an incredibly creative menu. If you haven’t been to RJ's Heavenly Delights yet, we strongly suggest you pay a visit to their west side Jackson location at 1194 N. West Ave.
