Tchaikovskiy's Life
Tchaikovskiy was born in Votkinsk, Russia in the foothills of the Ural Mountains in 1840. He was a sensitive child and he was very shy. His father, Ilya Petrovich, was a very wealthy and influential man in Votkinsk. His mother, Alexandra, was the one who introduced music to Piotr. He was very skilled in music from a young age. He wrote many musical pieces which are very famous today. He was forced to go to a boarding school when he was ten years old. The experience of him leaving on that day, was one that his brother said haunted him for the rest of his life. After a lifetime of writing music, Piotr died at the age 53.
St. Petersburg
Although Tchaikovskiy was not born in St. Petersburg, it is where he spent a good part of his life. He wrote much of his music here and it is where he got his fame. He first went to St. etersburg when he was 10 years old. He came here for boarding school. The whole time at boarding school he was homesick and he did not enjoy the experience. He died in St. Petersburg at the age of 53.
