What its like to be an immigrant
By: Miriam Vazquez
intro
2.5 million illegal immigrants attempt to cross the border in the past years. Do you have a family member that's an immigrant? Are you a immigrant yourself? Well then i'm sure you know how bad people judge immigrants and blame them for all the economy's debt, but it has been proven that the illegal immigrants are not the leading cause for all this debt.
My opinion on immagration
Being an immigrant doesn't mean that they're "dirty", "rapist", 'drug dealers" or as what people refer to them. We are just the same as an american aka a white person. we are all equally the same. we might not have the same things in common but that does not mean that people can descriminate against us just cause the color of our skin or the way we speak. what the point of discriminating if we are all human?
Why do they come to U.S?
Immigrants come to the U.S for a better life. The U.S has a lot of more opportunities that were the immigrants live so they make the dangerous journey of crossing the border to have a better future for their families and themselves. nearly 800,000 illegal immigrants arrived in the past two years to the U.S. roughly 63,000 minors have traveled to the U.S by themselves since October. they are mainly fleeing their country because of the violence in their home, and their poverty issues.
How do you become citizen?
To become a U.S citizen you must meet certain eligibility requirements, Be a legal permanent resident of the United States, and go through the naturalization process . You can get a green card. in order to get a green card you have to have lived in the state for at least 3 months. You can marry a U.S citizen. You must be 18 or older to apply for citizenship. You can apply for citizenship if you were in the military.
What do immigrant women face?
Hundreds of thousands of immigrant farmworker women and girls in the united states face a high risk of sexual violence and sexual harassment in their workplaces because US authorities and employers fail to protect them adequately, human rights watch said in a report today. the current US senate bill reauthorizing the violence against women act (VAWA) would go some way towards fixing the problem and should be enacted, but much more need to be done, human watch rights said.
