Mission to Mars Press Conference
Mr. Murray’s Core 6 Class held a press conference on Tuesday to discuss their findings from their recent trip to the Space Foundation Discovery Center.
The students have been working in class for the last few weeks on a Mars exploration mission. There were four groups including Engineering, Water, Lava Tubes (Geology), and Life who worked together to determine if life was possible on Mars, and where a space station would be possible. The long of the short...it's possible!
Customized Pencil Helps Student Write
Curtis Esch, PLTW teacher at Janitell, and Jaimie Hunsicker, occupational therapist, worked together this semester to design a customized pencil grip for the disabled student. Mr. Esch's "Design and Modeling" class helped create the grip using a clay model, design software, and 3-D printer. The pencil grip should allow the student to write in a way that is less fatiguing to the body, and that may reduce future joint damage.
There are still a some minor tweaks to be made to the grip, but it should be complete by next week so that the students can practice with is over the summer.
Members of the "motor" team and Mr. Esch are taking their collaboration to the next level and looking toward the future to give "Design and Modeling" students real-world problems to engineer to help real students who attend Widefield School District 3.
