Bulldog Bulletin

Principal's Message
Dear Bulldog families,
The first day of spring is almost here (March 20), and our flowers and trees are already starting to grow and bloom (even with our unpredictable Indiana weather). Our students have also been growing as we start our last nine weeks of the school year. While visiting kindergarten classrooms this week, I was so impressed with their progression as writers. Many have moved from using details in their pictures and labeling to grouping letters together to make words and stretching those into sentences!
Last Friday, March 10th marked the end of our 3rd 9-week grading period. As of today, grades will be available to families through Skyward Family Access. If you have any questions regarding your student’s learning and growth, please contact his/her teacher.
As you are finalizing your weekend plans, be sure to include attending the Hamilton Southeastern Art Show. The show will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 2:00-5:00 at HSE High School. All 21 schools within our district will have artwork on display; you will definitely be impressed by the talent and creativity of our young artists. There are around 90 pieces of art in the show that were made by New Britton students. I would like to give a special thank you to Mrs. Smith for her work in selecting the pieces and setting up our display. I would also like to congratulate our Bulldog artists who will have work displayed.
As always, thank you for partnering with us in education. Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin

Have a safe and relaxing Spring Break!
We'll look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday April 10!
Attention 3rd & 4th grade Parents
ISTEP/CCRA (College &Career Ready Assessment) which is much like the ISTEP+ Multiple Choice testing done online will be the week of April 17th through April 28th.
Testing make-up days will be done as needed throughout the second week. As the time gets closer, teachers will send out detailed dates and information to parents.
The Indiana Department of Education has provided parents with some information concerning the testing at the link below: http://www.doe.in.gov/assessment/istep-grades-3-8
Attendance during these days is very important; please make every attempt to reschedule dentist/doctor appointments around the test dates.
Here are just a few tips for a good start to every morning and they also make for an even better testing situation:
• Get a good night’s sleep. This is important every night!!!
• A good morning at home makes for a good morning at school.
• Eat a good healthy breakfast.
• Wear comfortable clothes.
• Talk to your students about the test in advance not just the week of the test. Remind them to give their best effort today and everyday. This test is important, but too much stress can be a problem also.
• Encourage your student to listen to the teacher for directions.
• Encourage your student to think positively – they can do this!!!
• Smile ☺ and tell a funny joke – laughing is good for everyone.
March Disability Awareness
In the City of Fishers and across the country, March has been designated as National Disability Awareness Month. The Fishers ADA/Disability Roundtable and the City of Fishers values its citizens with physical and intellectual disabilities. We have worked together to organize a month-long campaign to bring awareness about disabilities and to educate the community about inclusion. The City of Fishers has partnered with many outstanding groups and citizens, including HSE Schools to ensure March is filled with events that support disability awareness in our community.
This year’s 2017 March Disability Awareness Month theme emphasizes that people with disabilities are people first. They are co-workers, classmates, and neighbors, who want to be included in their communities – just like everyone else.
