The Siegrist Star
Week of November 6 , 2023
Community Project
Grussing boys from Cub Scout Pack 248 and the Schlesinger girls from Girl Scout Troop 1129 came together to work on a community project for Siegrist Elementary. Their initiative and hard work on refurbishing our bike rack turn out awesome. Thank you for your dedication to this project!
Fall Parties
Classrooms enjoy all kinds of activities and goodies in their classrooms on October 31. Mrs. Simon's class experimented using different combinations of liquids and solids to brew up different states of matter. Students then recorded their combinations and the reactions it made.
Other classrooms enjoyed dance party, bingo and made fall projects. Thank you to all the volunteers and our PTA for sponsoring this party!

Picture Retake Day - November 8
If you ordered pictures and you are having your child take pictures on retake day, please make sure to send back your unwanted photo packet back to school with your child on picture day, November 8. The photographer will take the packet and your new photos taken on retake day will be sent to school after they are processed.
All new students and students who were absent on September 6 will have their picture taken for the yearbook. Only fall pictures will be in our yearbook, so this is the last chance for your child's picture to be taken for the yearbook.
We will send home an order form with the students who are new or where absent so you may order a picture packet. Please send the order form back to school with your child before or on November 8.
If you have questions, please email Tracy Itao at itaot@platteco.k12.mo.us.
Seeking Service Member Photos!
November 8th, Siegrist Elementary will be celebrating Veterans Day. As a school community we would like to recognize and honor all active and retired service members. If you, or a family member, is an active or retired service member we'd like to put your photo on our honor banner. We ask that you indicate on the photo who the people are and the branch of service. Photos will not be returned so make sure it's a copy! Photos can be turned into the main Siegrist office or email your photo to itaot@platteco.k12.mo.us until Wednesday, Nov. 2th. We can't wait to honor you and your loved ones!
🗯️WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACK: Please Complete the Parent Survey by Dec. 3
Platte County School District is conducting its parent survey to gather feedback on strengths of the District, as well as areas to consider for growth. Your input is important and will be considered when making future decisions.
Instead of a full parent survey conducted once in the fall of each year, we will be dividing our survey into cycles and asking for your feedback more often.
- For this first cycle, you'll start with up to 20 quick parent survey questions regarding your student's academics, special services, and sense of belonging.
- Then you'll be asked to share feedback (thoughts) on these specific topics (academics, special services, and sense of belonging). The next cycle will focus on other topics.
During Parent/Teacher conferences, we will encourage parents to take this survey. You can complete the survey by clicking on the link below or using the QR code. Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Hello Parents,
Counselors utilize the Missouri Counseling standards to guide their instruction, as well as supplemental materials such as the MindUP Curriculum. MindUp curriculum focuses on mindful attention centering on conscious awareness of the present moment. By focusing our attention and controlling our breath, we can learn to reduce stress and optimize the learning capacity of the brain. The use of these practices in MindUP is informed by leading-edge research in the fields of developmental cognitive neuroscience, mindfulness training, social and emotional learning and positive psychology. As students learn about mindfulness practices throughout November, December and January, here are some questions you might ask your child(ren):
What have you learned about the brain?
What’s your favorite coping strategy?
What is mindfulness?

☸ ELEMENTARY PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOKS
The 2023-24 Elementary Parent/Student Handbook has been published and can be found on the PCR3 District Website. Please click the receipt of student/parent handbook & student code of conduct 2023-24 button at the bottom. This will take you to your signature page that both parents and the student states that you are aware of where to find the handbook and that all families and students are responsible for adhering to procedures and expectations. This will need to be as soon as possible!
❄️SWEATER WEATHER COMING!🥶
Winter Weather Information
🧣Click here for information on school cancellations/modifications due to inclement weather, how the District will notify parents, as well as information on recess, Y Club, and Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days. As a reminder, PCR-3 will implement traditional inclement weather days (no school and no virtual learning), until we reach a threshold that would push the school year past Memorial Day. We will make those days up per our academic calendar, and if we go past our planned make up days for inclement weather, we will implement our Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days.
Have You Opted In to Receive Text Notifications from PCR-3?
School Messenger is our automated phone calling and text notification system. We use this system to notify parents quickly for sudden changes in schedules due to emergencies, school cancellations, or just important school announcements.
If you aren't receiving the District's text reminders and notifications and would like to opt in to receive these, simply text "YES" to 67587. Standard text messaging rates apply.
