Nikola Tesla

Opening statment
Nikola tesla was one the greatest electricians alive. He was also very well known for few things i.e. The Tesla coil, ability to use AC power rather then DC. Nikola Tesla was born in the late 1800s it had died in the early 1900s while working on his most famous of the tesla coil. Which would later become one of the groundbreaking foundations for wireless energy.
AC Power
Who- Nikola Tesla: (10 July 1856 – 7 January 1943) was a Serbian American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system.
What- AC stands for alternating current, which means the electrical current frequently reverses direction. AC electricity is measured according to its cycles, with one complete cycle being counted each time a given current travels in one direction and then doubles back on itself.
When- 1886
Where- buffalo, New York
charactoristics
Nikola was a very brave and out going man, because while everyone thought AC power was dangerous he thought it could change the world. His tesla coil was something that he used which shoots sparks into the ground and shows the power of AC over DC.
significance
The significance of Nikola tesla is that he was the main user of AC power. Because he was so out there with his decision on using AC power people wouldn't know who was better or what will be more efficient. Although AC power is more efficient than DC Tomas Edison begged to differ that his was safer.
power plants/grids
AC has at least three advantages over DC in a power distribution grid:
- Large electrical generators happen to generate AC naturally, so conversion to DC would involve an extra step.
- Transformers must have alternating current to operate, and we will see that the power distribution grid depends on transformers.
- It is easy to convert AC to DC but expensive to convert DC to AC, so if you were going to pick one or the other AC would be the better choice.

significance
The purpose of having these Palmer plants where that AC power only needed so many and could travel greater distance(280 mile give or take a few). Rather than DC power which would require about a six foot diameter wire and go about less than have the distance due to resistance in the wire.
thinking ahead
Tesla was very ahead of his own time. by being so he was trying to one day in his life as i quote "someday you wont have to see those ugly power lines." Tesla was trying to find a way that he could transmit large amounts of power super long distances with out killing millions of people. Basically these towers would have to be thousands of miles tall to go only about half the distance.
