ISTEP Online Testing

We will be doing the online part of ISTEP testing next week, therefore, iPads will NOT be coming home at all next week. Please send your student's charger to school with them on Tuesday. This way we can be sure that every student will have their iPad each day and that it will be fully charged. Please make sure your student gets plenty of rest, eats a healthy breakfast and attends school each day!

A Note from Mrs. Wooten

I have become increasingly concerned over the past couple of weeks about the behaviors shown by a few of the students in our class. Behaviors such as making inappropriate comments about classmates, repeating inappropriate comments that have been made about classmates and even staff members, being disrespectful, not following directions, and excessive talking out of turn. There has not been a day go by that someone, a student or a staff member, has not come to me and said, "(Someone's name) said, . . .", culminating in one of our students going home in tears on Friday afternoon because of how she was treated at recess. I have given several Behavior Management Notices in an attempt to curb these behaviors. Those do not seem to be having any effect. It saddens me that my students have such little concern for and care so little about their fellow classmates. We at Johnson Elementary have always been known for being a caring school, however, the last few days, my students have not been exhibiting our Johnson Pride and good citizenship. Students who continue to exhibit this kind of behavior will be exempted from our class field trip on May 20th. Please take time in the near future to discuss these matters with your student and stress to them the importance of treating one another with kindness and respect. I am looking for better days ahead! Thank you!

Social Studies Project

Information is coming home on Monday about the Native American Artifact project. The project will be due on Thursday, May 5th. I have told the students to ask if they need help on materials. Please do not go to great expense. Materials should be items you have around the house or gathered from the outdoors. I do expect the students to do the majority of the work.

Spring Music Program

A special thanks to the students who have stepped up and decided to participate in our Music Program on Tuesday, May 10th. Everyone has worked very hard and I know you will not be disappointed with the performance.

Here are some of the items for the Mother’s Day shop! Items are priced $1.00-$5.00. Each gift will include a gift bag with tissue paper! The cart will be coming around on Thursday, May 5th and Friday, May 6th.

Spelling List: NO Spelling next week due to ISTEP testing!

Homework this week will be to read for AR and work on Social Studies project.

The description of the Social Studies project will come home on Monday. Students will be making a Native American item such as a dwelling, a dream catcher, a weapon, etc. I would like to stress the importance of the student doing as much of the work as possible and that no projects should be store bought kits. Please do not go to great expense, but use materials that you have at home. If students need help with any materials, please let me know as soon as possible and I can help provide those materials, so please do not wait until the last minute! Projects will be due on Thursday, May 5th.

AR Goals

Students should be at 70% of their AR goal by Friday, April 29th!

Progress on goals can be checked by logging in to Ren Place Home Connect for the school website or by having your student pull up the last quiz taken from their AR bookshelf and look at the tops report.

Congratulations to Desiraye Cooper on being our Attendance Hero for the week!
