Must-Visit Campus Places
First Year Students
Did you know that your tuition helps pay for services? Since you're paying for them, make sure you use them!
So you're finally heading off to college to hit the books, make new friends, and eventually, go out into the world of work. That's so far away, who needs to think about that now? You do! Here's a list of places on campus that you must visit to stay on track, stay healthy, and get ready for life after college.
Campus Computer Lab
These labs are essential when you need to get some work done while you're on campus. Printing, Internet, Faxing, and other services are usually available.
Financial Aid Office
Keeping up with your college bill and student aid is crucial to earning your degree. The folks in this office are there to help you pay for college; if you have a question or an issue, stop in to talk with them.
Student Health Center
Staying in good health is important. Feeling sick? Or depressed? Need health advice? Worried you might be pregnant? Committed to practicing safe sex, but need a free source of condoms? The health center has this and more.
The Library
College libraries are not those stuffy stacks we know from olden days. Now, they are full of multimedia resources to help you study, do research, document sources for a bibliography, and more. Find reliable sources of information with their databases, that are part of the tuition you pay. Take advantage of all the library has to offer. Not sure what your library offers? Ask the librarian for an overview and quick tour.
The Registrar's Office
Parking stickers, account issues, class add/drop, transcripts, and more. The Registrar's office has lines, because it's an important piece to staying on track. Jump into a line and get the help you need from the Registrar.
Career Services
Once a stuffy, boring place, the modern career services center usually offers a computer lab, career assessments, help with choosing or changing majors, occupation info, online resources, and helpful career counselors who are there to help you succeed while your in college and beyond.
Fitness Center
Want to keep off those "freshman" pounds everyone talks about. Join the gym. Keep your gym bag in your trunk so you can stop in to the center whenever the mood strikes. Zumba, the latest exercise machines, weights, sometimes they even have student fitness trainers there ready to help you stay in shape.
Student Activities Center
You're not just at college to study, right? Have some fun, get involved on campus. The best way to do that is to stop in to the Student Activities Center, meet the staff, and see what events are happening each month. If you join a club that's relevant to your future career, or volunteer, you could even add it to your resume.
Tutoring or Academic Center
Struggling to pass a class? Need someone to walk you through your assignments? The tutoring center on campus is a place you'll find tutors, resources, writing assistance, and guides for papers, and more.
